Ted, way to go on the 6 mil!

Chris, that is my problem...I HAVE all the ingredients. So I wonder how many meters must be rowed to work off each Mug-O-Cake? Oh yeah, and the glass of milk that went with it?

Good to have you back on board, Moose. Sounds like it was a wonderful time y'all had.

chocolate cake

Post by acrewer » October 2nd, 2008, 1:48 am

Two days away for the Jewish New Year and so much happens!!

The Cake!
the one good thing about not being able to eat gluten is that I have to adapt recipes such as this. Too much work. But it sounds so good, actually it will be nice for my 14 yr old son who eats EVERYTHING and does not gain an ounce!

The Invitations!
Beautiful, love the color and the dual languages!

But the good news is that the rib pain is almost nil, and I think I'll try a few strokes tomorrow. I'm going to go really slow and work back up to where I was. I have to remember to row my own race. I got hurt being too competitive.

Thanks for the welcome back everyone.
Gina - Glad to hear you can row again. That 400K goal has been out of reach for you since Chris' Grand Canyon trip!
Mitch - I haven't seen your canoe. But if your taste in paddles is any indication of your taste in canoes, you have nothing to worry about. Otherwise I have a very nice solo canoe for sale right now... Great picture Mitch, it's definitely worth a thousand words!

What do you do for challah, or especially matza with no gluten?

Thank you David and L'Shana Tova to you and yours.

As for challah, there is a bakery near me that is both 100% glutenfree and 100% kosher! www.sensitivebaker.com The challah is always round because the dough cannot be braided. As for matza, there is a field in England that grows kosher oats, which are then shipped to Israel and made into matza. It's frightfully expensive ($40/lb) but you do what you have to.

That bakery is very cool B) . (It looks pretty expensive, but it would be nice to have something like that. They only ship to SoCal, and I'm in Ohio.)
Unfortunately I can't have oats either. I tried the matza for 2 Pesachim, but I still got sick  . (A lot of money that didn't get used since nobody else in the family needs it, or wants to eat it.)

I have made a matza-like cracker from bean flour. I used a pasta recipe and baked it. It's not truely "matza" since it does not have any of the 5 grains, but if you are looking for a replacement, it works; http://allergygrocer.com/id412.html but the recipe should say 'greased' not 'engrossed' cookie sheet.

Post by Kona2 » October 3rd, 2008, 10:38 pm

Yo ho pirates! Sinice you are discussing baking, I thought I'd post the link to a funny story that's been floating about on the internet for awhile. It's called "Jasper and the Unbaked Yeast Rolls" - check out the link. Since I have Jesse the Bread Bandit in my household, I can truly appreciate the enormity of the situation. Read on!

Gina, glad to hear you are almost all better. Don't over-do.

The Mug-O-Cake recipe can be shared as much as you want. I got it off another forum.
