Fat Loss

Post by dazzlindino » September 5th, 2008, 11:04 am

As I am losing fat and trying to get back into shape, have noticed that the fat loss started at the extremities, hands, forearms, feet, calves, shoulders, lower thighs.
Seems like it will be forever and a day to begin whittling down the midsection to the gloriuos 6 pack!Has anyone else noticed this as they have worked out and lost fat?

I am at 20% body fat, down from 27%
have lost 31 pnds.
6' at 194pnds
Still the ol mid section has not given up much.
Thanks, Dazz

You are stuck with it. This is genetically determined and there is no way to control where you will lose weight first or last. On most men the belly is the very last to go :(

Don't worry. Keep at it. One of these days you will on your pants and you will be surprised to see looseness in them.

Just keep at it. Once you get to about 10% bf the gut will pretty much be gone. Showing off a six pack requires getting down to 8% or below. Check this out.

http://www.naturalphysiques.com/cms/ind ... 144&page=1

Make sure you look at page two where it shows for less than 10%-6.5% bf. Doing weight training will give you more of a six pack to show, but you still have to get the BF below 10% for it to be visable

Way to stay focused Dazz. I am focused on the same thing. I have had a moderate level of fitness for the last few years but have continued to carry a bit of a gut. Two weeks ago I started an experiment regarding the effects of rowing 750,000m in a 10 week period. To many on this forum they row that in probably half that time but this is in addition to my skating (as a serious hobby I am a competitive slalom skateboard racer).

I have not done a body fat percentage check yet but already in the two weeks (151,000 m to date) I can already tell a difference...I have not lost any weight to mention but have gone down a pant size already. I am like you, my arms and legs almost always are lean and the only place I carry fat is in the mid-section.

Keep us up to date on your progress because its inspirational.

There is no such thing as "spot reducing." Your body will lose weight all over as you exercise. You may however, notice what appears to be greater weight loss in certain parts of your body.

As far as the "six pack" you get that from building up muscle and losing weight from your entire body. Yes - you can make your muscles bigger in parts of your body by exercise. However, if you are fat, there will still be fat over those same muscles regardless of their size.

A WAG at 166 lbs.

For me it is around 151. It looks better at 149 and best at 148. At 147 I get the hollow hungry look and my wife complains.
