I was off the grid the last three days... three beautiful days; in an armada of 23 paddling boats of all colors and descriptions; carrying old and new friends; generally overloaded with camping gear and luxuries like chairs, tables, ice, coolers, and sun shade tarps (at least for the canoes in the group, the yakers had to be more spartan) and no tiki bar but will have to work on that for next year; paddling along among the many boats with interesting conversation or in the lead in solitude; for 40 miles on the beautiful lower Wisconsin River. Just got home last night. I haven't gone through my pictures yet, but will likely post the good ones on Webshots soon. I'll update this message with the link when I do. Darryl

Peter H 12,500 m (where in the world is Peter H?)
Peter H is back in the Netherlands. Just in time to cheer for the Dutch Women 8 and it worked we've beaten Romania by 2 seconds... and got a gold medal in the women double lwt sculls.

This week i'll still be home. Then three weeks Mexico. I have to go back and coach my wife again

Coming period I'll be traveling back and forth. 3 weeks Mexico, 3 weeks the Netherlands, two weeks Mexico ( to get married for church :D ) and a couple of weeks in the Netherlands... This time with my wife :D

I'll be rowing either from the gym at work or on my own rower in Mexico. So there shouldn't be a dip in my contribution of 50k a week.

Peter - I was glad to see the Netherlands take the silver, the Romanians have been put in their place! The last time the US Women won the gold in the 8 was 1984 here in LA. I was sorry to see the US Men take the bronze but they made their move too late in the race. The US Men were #6 at 500, but had the fastest splits during both the 1000-1500 and 1500-2000 pieces. They were gaining on both boats at the end, but ran out of water.

It's great fun to have the video's of the races available on the web, one can watch and learn.

Yesterday I went to the US Masters Regatta here in Long Beach, CA. Concept 2 did not have a booth, nor were any gloves or the C-Breeze available for sale. I did get a 'sore-no-more' seat pad. One side is sticky, so it doesn't shift on the seat. I was looking for a gel pad, but the concensus was that this material is even better. I tried it last night and it is definitely better than the foam. The one caveat - it does not float, so better for erg than in a boat

Most of the other vendors there were selling clothing - either race gear or t-shirts:

Rowing = the only form of exercise that began as a form of capital punishment

It was interesting to see people from all over the country compete and in all ages. The men over 70 looked amazing in their singles. I want to grow up to be just like them!

Thanks everyone for the commentary....we extroverts don't like silence....definitely makes me want to stir things up when it gets too quiet.

 So, Peter, does this mean that you had a civil ceremony, then you follow up with church ceremony in Mexico, then have to have another civil or church ceremony in Netherlands? That's a lot of good celebrations!
Congrats! :D

I wonder if Chris had to be rescued by helicopter from the Grand Canyon dam break?! She is one to make things adventurous!

Jan, Chris is not affected by the dam news: Dam break forces Grand Canyon evacuations http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26256451/

The flooding is in a side canyon and, according to the Wilderness Adventure people, her trip is unaffected by it.

Here is a photo of her and fellow adventurers that I just received from Wilderness Adventures:

Aye, be we pirates?? Skulls!
Shouldn't it be Sculls?

Well maybe when I raced it was skulling, since I was dying out there, and in light of rowing being Capital Punishment!

off to do my best to stay ahead of Jane (perhaps her new Model D is named The Crystal Skull?)

good catch

Post by Calamity » August 18th, 2008, 9:39 pm

Good catch Gina!! I am preparing for International talk like a pirate day in September.
Is it capitol punishment - ie election year - or corporal punishment?
Haven't named the erg yet. Do have videos which are being complied into a catch the ducks video. We are planning a luna-duck party here - which had to be rescheduled due to 100 degree heat. While I still have 2 ergs, the plan is to have the 6 of us in Yakima row for our suppers - and Blue Moon beer for those of us old enough.

Thank you Jane, Jan and Barbara for the Good Wishes !

We already had the civil ceremony here in Mexico back in April. Actually my profile picture is from that day. We'll really only have the celebrations here in Mexico. Peter's family and some friends are coming here to join us, so that will be very nice.

And we will be sharing the link for the pictures :D

Thanks again, and Take Care !

Dan's A Weekly Winner!

Post by Kona2 » August 19th, 2008, 9:29 am

Breaking news......Dan's just been notified by C2 that he is a weekly winner in the 51,000+ meter group!

Doesn't that make three Luna-Tics who have achieved this status??
Seems like Andrea, Darryl and now Dan have been lucky winners from Concept2!

Congrats to our half-marathon man, Dan Cox!

Woohoo!

Jan,

No way would you err.. The fault lies with yours truly. Must have been my typing and computer skills rearing their ugly head again. I have corrected it. I will not be doing any HM the next two weeks. The patients at the Wellness Center start looking at you funny when you stay on the erg more than 15 minutes and after an hour they start collecting in little groups and whispering and pointing.

Really though, how much do I care? Not a whit. I've watched a few row and not one had a clue. If I was a little more extroverted I would offer lessons.

I am only about 100 miles from C2's home base I was thinking of driving over if they would give me a tour of the plant.

Enough for now I've got to go duck hunting. High today is 61. Low tonight 47. Florida = Fay

Dan
