Hello,

I just bought a Model A through craigslist.com. It's in great shape, (was retrofitted with a PM2) and looks like the kind of machine that will endure another 20+years.

I'm new to rowing, and was looking for another option for a full body cardio workout. I own a versa-climber, nordictrack elliptical, and a recumbent bike, and use them all regularly. My first impression was that this machine was very smooth, (if not noisy) and made an incredible breeze.

My question is, what can I do to get my heart rate up higher? I thought I had a decent pace, and good technique (I referenced the vids on youtube), but I haven't worked up a good sweat as of yet (maybe the breeze is evaporating my sweat before it forms).

Do newer models offer greater resistance/workload? Sorry for my ignorance -- again I'm new to this.

Just go for a faster Pace for a longer period of time, you should get some sweat flowing.

Most people don't know why I invented the CBreeze for the models beyond the A, but having grown up with the A (and verified by your description) the wind it created was very welcome and getting it back was somethign I was looking for.

A word of caution: Don't leave loose papers in your exercise room, the A can make fairly short work of shredding them if they become airborn during a session. :wink:

Thanks for your response and advice Paul.

I was a bit more aggressive today and felt it. I did work up a nice sweat -

-but not until after I finished my workout. I joked about the breeze

evaporating sweat before it formed, but in a small room with this erg the

wind created literally kept me from sweating! My heart rate was right in

range and my legs are feeling it like no other cardio machine I own!

That's great. I rowed on the Model A back in the day. That was a revolutionary machine at the time. Brings back memories of the "bike wheel with black playing cards." My crew team (SJ Prep) had two of them with the original analog "speedometer" style monitor. Fantastic.
