hmmmmm....pot luck.....i don't cook but there is a place near me that has great sour dough bread....and since this is a virtuasl pot luck...and i'll be able to eat whatever i want....i'll bring the makings for hot fudge sundaes and dark chocolate candy bars......barbara

Woohoo and arrrrrg! There be lunar pirates in this boat! I looked at the meter totals this morning and can only fathom that we've done a bit of looting and recruiting - welcome Peter G! Big thank you to Darryl and Chris for keeping the number sheet alive and well! Thanks to AJ for some improvements to it!
Season meters to date = 47,675,493 m
Total meters on the day = 2,271,591 m (see what happens when we add a new teammate!)
25 percent of our oars were in the virtual waters!

I don't think I'm going to get many meters in before 4/30 - I suffered a big bug bite on the inside of my right wrist this morning. It's swollen and bruised - about 2" in diameter. The doc says whatever bit me hit a vein.

Hey team. I just posted for a bunch of days so don't go thinking I have rowed all those at once. I am getting much more limber again and can row 10k consistently. Did you all know that May is national ride your bike to work month. I will be signing up for it and hopefully I will still have the energy to row once I arrive.

21,098M 1:44:56.0 (2:29.2) 4/28/2008 (PB, easy, as it's my first ).
Now I see that the 1/2 marathon is listed as 21,097
.
I hope they'll count it though, as I cannot see myself doing another one by April 30...
I should have looked on the list, but I checked Google and found:
1 half marathon = 21 097.494 meters
To be sure, I entered the distance as 21,098...
No I have about 11k to my first 1M.

Chris - There is no such thing as a marauding woodcock! They don't even occur in the west. They just happen to be one of the coolest and most entertaining birds of the northern forest. Check this out:

Be sure listen to the male woodcocks mating song on this site. You'll hear 3 distinct sounds: 1) is a buzzing sound (done when they are on the ground) 2) is a tremolo whistling sound that happens when the bird flies spiraling up almost out of sight and 3) is a sound like large drops falling into a pool of water that happens when the bird tucks in its wings and freefalls back to the ground catching itself in the last 20 feet or so and landing on the exact spot it flew up from to repeat the process. This can go on for an hour or so in early morining and again at dusk. These poor guys sure have to go through a lot just for love...
Angelo - Congratulations on the 2 million mark! You had us worried that you had stalled out with less than 500 meters to go.
Gina - I assure you that is no woodcock bite. But keep a close eye on that wound for a while and if it doesn't show signs of getting better shortly, go back to the doc. If you didn't see what bit you, there are some nasty bites you can get from spiders (recluse spider) as well as from true bugs, like assassin bugs, water bugs, etc. And thanks for the uff da support.
I'm heading out for a few days to watch the spring migration of birds into the area and won't be rowing until I'm back. Hope to see a whooping crane or two at Necedah National Wildlife Refuge as well as the gazillion waterfowl that should be stacked up in the area waiting for ice out.
