Luna-Tics daily stats for April 24, 2008
brought to you in plain vanilla text by DuluthMoose, subbing for, but not up to Kona2’s usual high standards…. (how could she do this to the team?)
disclaimer: if there are any screw-ups contained within this, its Chris’ fault.
Only 6 More Days This Season To Row!
Season meters to date = 45,214,135 m! Let’s make 46 million!
Total meters yesterday = 138,567 m!
22 percent of our oars in the water!
Milestones!
Yes we had Half Marathons yesterday!
Captain K!
Tim!
Mitch! (not sure if continuous row)
Outstanding rowing!
(I’m not up to speed on the fancy graphics like Kona2, so there should be a full moon graphic right about here. …that’s a celestial full moon, not terrestrial.)
Angelo would you please row the last 457 meters for the 2 million meter mark! The drama is too much.
And today's stars are:
Mitch 22,105
Kristine 21,097
Tim 21,097
Darryl 16,429
Mike 10,004
Mary 7,246
Steve 7,065
Andrea 6,918
AJ 6,721
Tony 6,416
Joseph 6,337
Barbara 5,014
Sorin 2,000
Chris +27 -27
Way to row!
I will be passing the stats baton to Chris and she’ll have to become responsible. (Everyone end their rows on the 27 meter mark over the weekend…) I’ll be heading to the Twin Cities early tomorrow (provided tonight’s snowfall doesn’t make for hazardous driving) to take in a spring outdoor expo, check out a canoe auction, and to check out the lakes on the way south to find out how far north the ice is out. It’s been a long winter and it is definitely time for me to get on water and paddle….
River, take me along in your sunshine,
sing me your song ever moving and winding and free
You rolling old river,
You changing old river,
Let's you and me, river, run down to the sea. (from River - Bill Staines)

Darryl and Chris, Thanks for taking over the stats while Jan is gone, and have a safe trip, Darryl.
Tim and Chris, you two are cracking me up!
Yeah, Angelo, you are killing us with suspense. Are you really off the rower, or just keeping off-line to give us something to wonder about?
Team LUNA-TICS truly lives up to it's name!
I propose an end of season party on the boat. It would be a lot of fun if everyone on the team would post here on the last day of the season. Raise a toast to the team, share your goals for the next year, or just say "Hi". I will send an email out to the whole team (challenge and year-round), and invite everyone to the party. Bring your hats and whistles!

contiuous row
I rowed a 1/2 marathon then a 5 minute cool down. I logged them separately, you must have just get the totals. I really enjoy being a part of your team, it quite motivating, and glad I can contribute. I can't wait to get to the moon, I've always wanted to go. I dropped about 30 pounds last year, so for the coming year I plan to drop at least another 30. I've already lost over 10. Considering I'm 280 I carry it quite well. Good luck to all you in the coming year.

I have not forgotten about rowing. I just have taken a week off after NARC to let my body rest, blisters heal, cross train with weights, and oh yeah - catch up on the work i blew off for the challenge. So I was not on the porch last night - I was helping change a flat tire on a my partner's car under a street light outside our house - which was not part of my cross training plan.
Hoping to get at least a half marathon in for the challenge. Congrats to all those who have done their marathons.

I sure hope my meters count
I joined the Luna tics for the January challenge. I am not sure if I am a full gledged member or not, but would like to be.
I like to row about 10k a day. I am also going to post my picture as soon as I figure out how. . It is not a very good one because I am a mediocre photographer. I am 54 years old and I live in Port Washington, NY. I have two wonderful kids, who are quite young, for my age that is, so I have to stay in shape to keep up with them.
Team administrator, please let me know if my meters have counted, and if not how I can correct that.

First Post by Mitch: (Hiya, and Congratulations on your HM!) Yep, the team stats are simply pulled from your total meters … taking today’s total and deducting yesterday’s. Peter G: Welcome to year round Team Luna-Tic … tearing through space toward the Moon.
Kap’n Kristine: Great idea to have a virtual party. Will that be catered, or pot luck? (I have a tasty avocado and garbanzo bean salad recipe ... )
Tim, Rocky Mountain High: I feel like the Little Engine that Could … you’re always within reach but always one step ahead. Just when I think I’ve nailed you, you pull another HM!
Darryl, Plain Vanilla Moose: Your Raw Hands song has been playing in my head for 3-days now … uff da, indeed. (I’ve only changed planes in Minnesota, so had to look that up: uff da = oy vey.)
G’day, Angelo: 2,000,000 season … anytime, mate! Will there be fireworks on the Coathanger to mark the moment?
Dr. Dan: Missed you this week. Did you trade your erg workouts for shuffleboard?
Jane: Blisters? I can’t imagine how that happened … you only rowed a puny 27,000,000 meters during the previous challenge.
Jan, Statistician Extraordinaire: No one would believe your Excel spreadsheet unless they saw it. I didn’t know there were formulae that long! (Is this your triathlon format now: erg/bike/golf?)
Chris

Mitch - Thanks for the clarification on your half marathon the other day. Now if I could only figure out how to edit out the "not sure if this was one continuous row". Oh well, what counts is that you've earned your certificate.
Chris - Sounds to me like you've lead a sheltered life. You need to hang out with more Norwegians, Iowegians, and Minnesotans if you've never experienced uff da before! Uff da does not equal oy vey. Oy vey is used to express something negative; as I understand it kind of means dismay. Uff da is an expression used where there is some kind of sensory overload going on, and thus could be positive, or negative. So it is a much more versatile phrase. Positive example: If a beautiful blonde Norwegian woman walks into a gathering of Norwegian bachelor farmers, there is bound to be an uff da (Scandinavian wolf whistle) or two expressed by the men. Negative example: If the oldest son on the farm is given the task to re-dig the outhouse pit, there will be plenty of uff-da's muttered before the task is done! Then there is the creative uses of uff da. A hundred miles up the shore of Lake Superior from Duluth is the little gem of a town called Grand Marais, where a collection of artists, free spirits, loggers, wilderness guides, and bush bunnies all call home. An institution in Grand Marais is Sven and Ole's pizza shop with the Pickled Herring Club bar in the back. They advertise their pizza as uff da-licious and you can spot their bright yellow bumper stickers all over the region.
I had a good time down at the outdoor expo. Didn't bring any stray canoes home with me (and that's probably a good thing). Bumped into a bunch of canoeist I know so we were all commiserating about the winter that just won't go away. The good news was the ice is going out of lakes only 50 miles south of where I live. There is hope for spring here! Actually I have a woodcock in my yard the last few days doing his mating flight rituals. Has to be a sure sign of spring. Darryl

I'M Back
And no Chris, I didn't turn in my erg for shuffleboard.
Although I got home about 6PM no meters today. A little arm weary from the 20 oz. curls (did you know they have Fosters in 20 oz. cans? Amazing). A little leg weary from climbing all the stairs (Only 7 decks to the food and pool). Plus a little body weary from the late night three card poker games in the Casino. And yes I did come home $900 ahead. My bride did spend one bad day on a Catamaran sailboat. I still paying for that.
Looks like you all have been having fun and surpassing goals while I was gone. Well, the party's over; tomorrow I'm back on the erg for at least 100 meters.
Barb: WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I report in tomorrow about weight gain/loss only if it's not to grotesque.

Woohoo!
Wowzer! You guys have been doing great rowing and great report outs! Two new voices! Most excellent! Golf courses were superb - although some of the canyons with the 100 foot drops from the tee box were a bit intimidating.
I will look forward to getting a bit of rowing in myself over the next few days as I try to finish up the 3rd million by season end (probably won't happen as this is a short month).

I am obviously seriously Scandinavian impaired. I'll break open a jar of pickled herrings and consider the various uses and conjugations of Uff Da. (That would be: I Uff, You Uff, He/She Uffs ... We Uff-Duh!)DuluthMoose wrote:Chris - Sounds like you've lead a sheltered life. You need to hang out with more Norwegians, Iowegians, and Minnesotans if you've never experienced uff da before! Darryl
I hesitate to ask about a woodcock ... isn't that the little critter who looks for his shadow in February? (JUST KIDDING!) It was 93 degrees here today ... hard to imagine ice and snow in one's neighborhood.
Happy to see y'all had a good time, away from home and erg. (And, yes Dan, I did know that Fosters comes in super-sized cans.)
Chris
Fosters
Yes Dan, I did know about Fosters. If you read my post NARC post I had a 22oz beer from Roslyn, WA. And for tonight''s trivia, Roslyn is where Northern Exposure was filmed. The Yakima Valley region is where 78% of the Hops come from. I learned that at the State Fair. To show the culture here, several years ago the city council had the choice between a state fair and a state college and they chose the fair.
Jane
PS Chris - I did a little less than 27,000,000 for Narc. About 26,200,000 less.

Progress has been made. The lofts have been moved.
There is still more work to go before the birds can move in, but the end is in sight.
Now to focus on rowing for the next few days.
Peter Green, welcome. I do not see your name listed on the LUNA-TICS challenge team roster, and I do not see your name appearing on the LUNA-TICS year-round team either. To get on the year-round team you must edit your profile from your log book, and select LUNA-TICS as your team affiliation. C2 changed the way to join a team for challenges. You should see a link for that if you click on the Teams tab at the top of your log book. Let us know if you need help. Also, if you need help getting your picture sized correctly, just email it to me, and I can get it set for you. The profile and the forum avatar take different sized picture files.
Mitch, good to see you posting here. Love your avatar! Great job on the weight loss! Thirty pounds is a lot.
Chris, the bean salad sounds great. Let's make it potluck so we can all try it. BTW, great pic on your team profile. I saw it just now for the first time. The LUNA-TICS as a team has done a great job with getting pictures on the profiles. Almost everyone has a picture up now.
Glad to see you back Jan and Doctor Dan!
