If you'd like to join the team, go to your online training log, choose Profile > Edit Profile and choose Row Pain, Row Gain from the pull down menu under the College/University Affiliation section."

Once you set the affiliation, the meters you row will add in with our team meters. Then when you pull up your online log, you can click on the College/University link off on the left side, pull up our team and see the results.

You can eventually find a rowing partner to pair up with for a little extra motivation, but the forum is always an great place to visit.

We would love to have you join up with us, Simon. Hi,
I have an erg thanks to our son's participation on a college crew team. I need to do something to lose weight and have started rowing. But the jargon is really hard to follow. I'd like to join the team but I think I would be like someone doing the dogpaddle at an olympic swim meet!

Can you tell me what would be a good beginning goal for rowing? For instance, I rowed easy for 20 minutes and went 3037 meters... pretty paltry I know... but I am wondering what a target goal should be. I don't understand the daily workouts yet so I was thinking if I could just get started on a basic level, the rest would come along.

Where should I be in order to be a good contributing member of the team? All advice appreciated! I am 52 and about 50 pounds overweight. If I could lose 30 of it I would consider it a victory.

Thanks much!
Candace B

Something to do with horseback riding?

Spur - 1. Bull riders wear spurs that are required to have dull, loosely locked rowels (the wheel-like part of the spur that comes in contact with the animal). The spurs help a rider maintain his balance by giving him added grip with his feet. The spurs do not cut or scratch a bull's hide, which is seven times thicker than a human's skin. 2. Professional Basketball team located in San Antonio, Texas.

When your from a "one horse" town-a.k.a. "one professional sports team" town the fans of that town tend to take on a fanatical attitude.

I was hoping to get a professional soccer team but the local city council voted down the expenditure for a new stadium @ $21M. I had a downpayment on a corp box but haven't got a refund yet! Things may get better after we get Toyota locally so that we can draw in the large industry partners that every pro team needs to feed the sports boxes

I make it up to Dallas a couple times every year to see the Cowboys or the Rangers, sometimes get to Houston to see the Astros. But for Basketball, my company has some box seats so I end up "hosting" a lot of clients. I'm hating the upcost after their recent title though.

As to Lance, he's been good for cycling and local charities. Talking poorly of Lance in Texas will get you in a fight down here.

Hey! Did some great fishing down on the Gulf this weekend-didn't catch anything but got to spend some time with the kids and the wife stayed back on the beach

Working to the 100K-did a good 5K this a.m.

Go Row Pain, Row Gain Go!

Thx

Rob
WoW, you guys/gals have done great. Went away up to the Northwoods (YoHo as the lumberjack/jills say) and was pleasantly surprised to see we moved up! Great job all!
Went from 75 degrees in WI to back home where it is in the upper 90's, again no excuse not to exercise inside!
I'd like to welcome all our new crewmates since I last posted and if I missed anyone just push me overboard. (I'll get back in anyway!)
Rowing Rob,CandaceB,julieofarc,ahjee897,Tiber
Welcome, welcome to the best erg crew around!
Robin, I'm BACK! No more slacking!
And typical of most vacations I put on 5 lbs, must have been the fudge, beer, rum, eating out, fishing, reading, relaxing, etc, etc. I don't regret an ounce of it!
New month, new start!
Mary
Each of us contributes what we can. Yes, we have a few people who row a lot, but we have many who are beginners and couldn't catch those guys if we tried.

Actually, your easy 20 minute row was great for a beginner. You and I are in the same ranges on age and weight we want to lose. Be sure and read C2's section on rowing for weight loss and look up workouts for that (under Workout of the Day). Their training info is great. The general recommendation for weight loss is to work up to 5-6 days per week and to work up to long rows that get your heart rate up into aerobic training range.

Be sure to take it easy as you work your way up. It's easy to get overzealous, but when you get sore and can't row, it doesn't do you any good.

Please join the team. You can do that by going to your profile > edit profile. In there, choose Row Pain, Row Gain from the drop down menu under University Affiliation.
Well, I'm taking going to be taking a few (or more) days off... I have to go in for a treadmill test next week (I'm too young for this, aren't I?) and the doctor wants me to hold off on the rowing for now.
I'm sure it's just stress so hopefully I'll be back to rowing again next week. Until then, keep on rowing everyone.
