Eating the right food and motivation/goals

Post by Scullywag » January 10th, 2009, 12:12 pm

B) Since relocating to Scotland around 18 months ago from London, I lapsed my gym membership. I lived in a hotel for 6 months and started to explore the restaurant scene. I love food and with no exercise my weight increased by around 28 pounds and my waist has gone from 34 ins to 37 ins. I was extremely fit for my age (now 54) in my London days attending the gym 4-5 times a week, aerobics/weight training. I used a Concept rower for 20 years, so am a committed convert. I bought my first home machine in Dec 2007 and have only just started using it regularly. Our rural location still makes gym membership impractical. I row 10k per day aiming for at least 5 times a week and my time is down to 43.13.1 at mark 4. Recovery time is around 1 minute and my heart rate achieves 175. I know HR is in excess of what it should be for my age (max 166 ?), but this has never been a problem for me, as when I was using the gym, my "fitness age" was very low (20-ish). My problem is maintaining motivation and eating the "right" type of food in the "right type" of amounts. I have now substituted sweets/snacks for dried apricots, apples, cherries, oranges but still cannot resist some KFC, fried chicken at lunchtime (3 pieces, no chips !). My goals are to reduce my weight to 13st within 6 months (max) with ideal weight 12st 7lbs by October 2009 when I want to run a 10k in under 40 minutes (my lifetime best was around 37 mins from memory). I have completed two London marathons in 1996 and 1997 (best time 3 .5 hours), so I have running and training experience. We also just bought a Nintendo Wii Fit package to add variety to my training + a mountain bike. Am I on the right track. Is there a kindred spirit with good advice out there ?

Post the same question here http://www.concept2.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=9 where the Brits hang out.

C2 UK has http://www.concept2.co.uk/weightloss/interactive.php

Read this http://faculty.css.edu/tboone2/asep/Robergs2.pdf and you'll understand why 220-age is a hopeless generalisation (could be wrong by +/- 40bpm)

:D Cheers mate. I did not realise there was another forum which I had to sign in separately to. Do the majority of the Brits use your recommended site ? Will have a glance at the heart rate stuff now,

Thanks again
