Another "my story"

My fiancee and I just purchased two rowing machines (am I allowed to say they are from Stamina? ). We'd like to get the C2 models, but we are on a very tight budget being young college students/working full time and trying to save up for a wedding. Found a good deal on the Stamina Body Trac Glider, which had excellent reviews. Figure it's a good place to start. :) Any rowing is good rowing, right?

I'm 5' 8", 170 lbs, 24 years old. In high school I was same height, but 135 lbs. Much of my weight gain has been over the past two years, and I feel that if I don't change my diet and exercise habits, I will reach 200 in a year or two. My fiancee and I both want to lose weight, become healthy and active.

We find that coming home from work, we're exhausted and just want to take a nap which turns into sleeping until the next morning. We don't do anything fun because we're too lazy. It's really putting a big downer on our lives. It must change!

I enjoy being on the water and have always wanted to row on the water competitively. This seems impossible unless I go to college, which do but it's an online school. So it looks like I'll just have to get a shell for my fiancee and I someday in the future - seems impossible to find any recreational teams anywhere.

I really am excited about improving my life by rowing and eating better. It's hard to get the motivation, but since my fiancee is doing it with me we should have no issue. Regardless of the time of day or weather outside, the erg will be there. I also sent an e-mail to join the LUNA-TICS for the January team contest.

Now I just have to wait for the rowing machines to be shipped and off I go!

You're very welcome to post here, whatever machine you own. I won't comment on the machines you bought (though I think I would have just gone for one, but then I can rarely get my wife to row at all, let alone at the same time as me), but I'd certainly recommend joining a club if you can. Many (probably most) clubs have a non-competitive section that you can join, and move up when you're ready, and you're clearly not markedly overweight. I don't know what you have for transport, but http://www.pwrc.org/club/history.asp might help.

Welcome

I am just a hair taller than you and in August 07 was 178 lbs. This was the most I had weighed outside of being pregnant and was frightened that if I didn't do something I would be 200 lbs before I knew it. I started using my concept 2 in the mornings before I left for work. I was able to just do 10 minutes at a clip. I have lost about 16 lbs since August and have another 15 or so to go and can row 45 minutes a session now. If you stick with it you will be rewarded with a firm tummy, shapely arms and the feeling of good health. This site has some good getting started work outs.

Enjoy

Dawn. :D

Thanks, Paul and Dawn. I did TONS of searching for local clubs, but never once came across PWRC, which is PERFECT. I look forward to checking into it when the season comes around.

We *could* have just purchased one, but we like the idea of working out at the same time.
