Yup, another Newb to the forum.
I just ordered my Model D and it should arrive by May 21 which is great since I'll be off and can get started.
I purchased my Concept 2 with the ultimate goal of shedding about 40 pounds. Need to get down to 200 pounds for a potential job offer. I used to use the rowing machines at the gym where I went to college and loved them. My wife just had a baby so we are pretty busy and don't find time to get out an hike and bike like we used to. I thought the rower would be a great idea until things get a little less hectic. It fits with our work/school schedules as well.
This forum has been very helpful. Almost made a big mistake buying a cheaper, poorer quality rower but thanks to all the positive comments on the board, I went with the C2 Mod D, it's only money right?
Can't wait to get going with all the online challenges. I couldn't believe there is a whole online world of competition. I used to live in Philly and religiously went to the Dad Vail every year. Always wanted to get on the water but this is gonna have to do for now.

Well, I love my Model D. I have had it about 3 weeks now and I am starting to take it more seriously. I have been focusing on technique to get the most out of the rower and thanks to these forums, I have found a lot of other motivations like the online rowing and competitions.
My wife loves the erg as well. Our 12 year old occasionally gets on it as well which I think is great because she needs a physical activity to be involved in.
I am getting to the point where I am looking at the SPM and watts to make my stroke more efficient/powerful. I know that "long rows" are the keys to weight loss as well as a better diet so that is my next focus.
Just goofing off on night I did a 2000m row in 9:45 with an SPM of 26. A few days later I did a 5000m in 26.59 with an SPM of 24 and that was after being sick for 2 days with an upper resp infection. So I guess my next step is to really test my self on the 2K and 5K and make some goals from there.
Well worth the price of admission. The forums are a great resource and the people here make it easy to ask for help.

Welcome aboard. I followed the same path last October, and have not regretted it one bit. I cancelled my gym membership on the day my ergo arrived and stopped drinking alcohol soon after.
I have lost 35 lb, dropped my blood pressure enough to stop taking atenolol, and feel much fitter. Also, the saved gym and booze money has almost paid for the ergo. It was a purchase I couldn't afford to have not paid!
Have you tried the UK forum. It seems to be bigger and more active than the US forum. [How often can the Brits claim that!
]. In fact, I don't know why we've got two fora: it would make far more sense to have a single international English-speaking forum.
Cheers
Dave
