New C2 Rower

Post by Keigan » July 18th, 2011, 5:05 pm

It took a few days to place my order, but I know this is the best thing I can do for my physical being. C2 Model E on it's way to Seattle WA.

48 years old
6'4" in height
230 pounds with 36 inch waist, largest I've ever been
My routine is walking the dog each morning and night, no significant carbs, need to eat more veggies.
My objective is to work my way up to 11,000 meters each day - sounds like slow and long is the way to burn fat calories.

I've been reading these forums for a few days, now I understand why I use to be starving after a CrossFit workout - we were burning all of the locally stored calories through intensive workout and never reaching the real fat calories.

I'll update this thread as thing progress. Thanks, Keigan

Keigan,
Welcome aboard. I just picked up a lightly used D on 7/4/11. Been using it daily since. Don't feel so bad about your weight. I'm 6'3" 291 at the moment. Luckily there some old weightlifting muscle hidden under there though. Funny you should mention fruits and veggies. I just watched good weightloss documentary on Netflix called Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. Almost makes me want to order a juice machine! Check it out if u have a streaming acct. And be sure to give RowPro (online rowing s/w) a try as well.

Hey thanks.

Searched for a used C2 on c..list.org, the used ones hold their value well - in the end it was not that much to simply buy a new one. Like they say, life and lifetime investment is worth doing it right. I find I'm using my blender and the range top every night. Making yogurt with fresh or canned fruits to place in the fridge for breakfast and snacks, then stir frying veggies and sweet potatoes that both myself and the dog eat. Then we add ground turkey or on sale chicken, dog takes his bland and I add curry. My lettuce garden will take about two months to come together and then that will be dinner.

Need to find a real scal before I get too far into this adventure. Stay healthy!

It arrived! Some assembly required, two screws of the wrong length but i'm certain we can figure that one out. I like the heart rate monitor, very cool.

So I start tomorrow.

Core objective is to monitor calories consumed and work up the calories burned by building up to 12k per day six days a week.

Make sure you log your meters in the online logbook. You can get a cool tee-shirt when you hit a million meters!

Now logging online, 1500m tonight was a casual initiation to my heart rate, max of 152 is good for now.

If the screws are the wrong length you've put the legs on back to front.

Working my way into a good routine:

Day 01 was 1500m
Day 02 was 2500m
Day 03 was 2500m
Day 04 was 4000m in twenty minutes

Hoping to make 5000m within thirty minutes in the next few days, then hold that for about a week.

Feels all good so far.

Since you have already done a 20' 4k, you should easily be able to do 5k in much, much less than 30'. I would think that you could complete it in 25:30 or less.

You are correct, I'm just being overly cautious.

Part if this ramp up is a clearing of the lungs - the strength in my muscles can far exceed the capabilities of my lungs. Baby steps are good thing right now, I'll kick it up once my body has gone through the adjustment.

Thanks

Strong work. For a change of pace, you can try setting a time for the row (like 30') and work on increasing the number of meters over a week.

Good job! But you are right, baby steps are the best way to go. Now you know that you are capable of doing a faster than 2:30 pace for close to 25 minutes, you can work at about that pace for a few days to build up your endurance - maybe for slightly longer times as the days go by. Once you feel comfortable with that for 30-40 minutes, you can start work on lowering the pace.

Thanks for the words of encouragement!

There are plenty of books and experts regarding "how to improve" but very few sound words regarding "how to initiate" without "over cooking and causing damage.

I'l try to stick to 5000m until Sunday, Sunday I can push to "spent" and then take a nap.

Thanks again

Getting into a good daily schedule is harder than one would think, work gets in the way. Currently rowing 5000m every other day. I'm aligning my schedule so I have time everyday. Hoping to step up Bove 5000m this weekend.
