My thoughts are that to lose weight diet is way more important than exercise. However for example, a diet limiting to 1500cal can be one limiting to 2000cal if you use exercise to make up the 500 difference and help you to eat a bit more 'normally'. I agree that Long Slow Distance is the best way to go for pure calorie burn. It will still improve fitness from sedentary and unless it's stupid amounts shouldn't make you feel like a wreck whilst still losing weight. I don't think there's any way round feeling a wee bit hungry during weight loss unless you want to do it over an extremely long period of time though. (Which actually might be advantageous for lots of folks to change eating habits properly).

Once you are down to your target weight though, exercise can go a long way to allowing you to eat enough to feel 'full' most of the time, and as long as you don't over indulge to excess in alcohol or fatty food can help make up for moderate intakes.
