Rough start....
Was going to start the program this am... but my upper back is sore! I twisted yesterday helping my cousin move!!!!!!!!!!
I actually try to row a bit and it seems fine.... but decided to wait till the end of the day to see if it will loosen up this afternoon and go easy on the first day of the program...

I got my program here... I actually did my first row this afternoon! The back felt loose and good so I started the program...Easier then I thought!! I did set the damper at 1 though... I rowed a few times when i first got the machine at 3 and found that it was a bit tough for me. So I switched to 1 and will move up to 2 later. It was good workout. I got my heart rate avg 147 bpm so it was the range that I need to be in.

A rough start indeed...
I have never rowed before or been on an ERG. I took delivery last Friday and I have been on it every day, trying to work on my technique and increase the length of each workout after being reminded how out-of-shape I really am. I had planned on using it to lose some weight, so I looked on the UK Forum at the Interactive Weight Loss Programme.
It identifies me as being "overweight", which I knew<g> - anyway, I opted for a 10kg loss using 5 sessions per week for the Level 1 types...those who have not exercised regularly for 3 years or more. It generated my program and I duly printed it out.
Here is my first weeks 5 sessions that it suggests I do:
4 x 6' AT (24-28 spm)
3 x 15' UT1 (20-24 spm)
3 x 9' AT
4 x 6' AT
3 x 15' UT1
Anyway, having used the machine for just 3 days now, I can honestly say that the first two sessions of the above weight-loss program are just too ambitious for me. I cannot do 6 minutes at 24spm...yet, and I certainly cannot do 15 minutes at 20spm either.
I have always been fairly active having played rugby and been an international level referee, but I haven't done much for the last 8 years except walk the dog for about 2 miles a day. Yesterday I did 4 x 5minute workouts at ~18spm with mhr of 150 (1024~1087 meters each) which seemed comfortable to start with and I do plan on increasing that each day. But for now, my weight loss program needs to go on hold until I can build up my stamina.
At the weekend though, the competitive nature came out in me, so I tried pulling a fast 500 meters - 1' 57.6" OK I thought for a raw beginner at age 62
I think I'm hooked

Brian... What is your damper setting? I am doing the weight loss program from the UK site as well and my goal is 12lbs / 7 weeks. I am going to make it! So far, I loss 1 lbs already and this week is starting week 2 of the program. My damper setting is 2 and I am getting a heck of workout.. feels so good to see the sweats off my chin :-0
I am also using a HRM to watch my progress. I have a tendency to go hard so the HRM keeps me in the range.
I thought it would be a struggle to row 4x15min at 20-24 spm last week but I did it and I felt great!!! so I know I can finish the program!!

getting better
My damper was set to 2...now 1. I've been concentrating on being able to row non-stop for 10 minutes - twice, with a short break. It's now getting easier. In the next day or so, I plan on trying to do a daily 5000 meters and slowly reduce the time by raising my SPM. Right now its 18-20spm but I'm feeling more comfortable every day.
I've only missed one day in eight...because I'd had a couple of beers.

I was out of town about 10 of the last 13 days. I did find a Gym in Houston and rowed for two hours - got in 25K, my longest row. I did get off about half way and get some water. It was a nice new Model D - much smoother than my old Model B. I have not lost any pounds yet. I'm not too discouraged. I'm going to hit it hard this week as I will be in town all week. How are you doing?

Marvin... I am doing great! The program from C2 UK website is good. So take a look! I am also eating the same amount but I discipline myself to break them into 5 portions. I eat a BIG breakfast and then eat at 1030/ noon/3 and 6. Its good because I dont go hungry thus I dont eat a lot!!wbulr wrote:Bruce -

I also get a digital scale to measure my BMI and Boday % it serves me as a visual motivator. I dont get on it daily thouhg!
So far, I loss 4 lbs since Feb. 18
This week is gonna be a good week!! Looking forward to it!!

Just thought I'd let you know that I looked at the program advised for me, and it, too, was just too ambitious for my current conditioning. I'm not totally out of shape, but rowing does use different muscles and in a different way than I'm used to. I think after a few weeks of conditioning I'll go back and see how the weight loss program looks then.

Hi... Dan... I am using the UK program and it works great for me. Having said that, my goal was 6 kgs ( 12 lbs ) with 5 sessions / week (level 1 ) and for 7 weeks. The first week was tough but week 2 was easy and now week 3 I am getting use to the program. After a week of really just working on my technique, I decided on Sunday to try 5000 meters and I completed it and have done 2 more since. I'm still having trouble averaging above 18spm but my 500 splits are 2:22.2 which is giving me a good workout. Yesterday, I thought I'll just go for a leisurely 5000 but then halfway through it, I found myself wanting to beat the previous days time, and then somewhat regretting it because I had worked harder than I had wanted to. Have you thought about getting a heart rate monitor?? this will really help you to train and lose weight... Just a few days ago I was on the C2 and just felt totally lousy... you know... no energy and just suffering... but the HRM was showing that I was in the targeted zone... so i just went with the flow...
