Early NY resolution

Post by Rowingdad1 » December 14th, 2017, 9:56 am

Hi Folks
So here I am back in the Forum which has always been a great source of information and motivation. I see from my own signiture that I have gained 10llbs from the outsize 238 that I was a year ago! TIme to act!
So my aim is to be a bit more systematic in my training with an emphasis and a bit high volume of low intensity indoor rowing to start to reverse the fatty tide.
Starting pont 248 llbs appx 30% body fat

Sounds like an excellent idea. One thing I have learnt from this forum is you can't correct a poor diet by training alone. You will need to look at your diet and work out how you can improve it to something you can stick with in the years ahead.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Pie man. I didn't mention diet but that is clearly 90% or so of what I need to get right. I find it much easier to keep to a decent diet if I'm training well and feeling fit! I'm just keeping to a simple balanced diet and recording every morsel on My Fitness Pal.
Good day today with an hour on the erg and at least 1000 cal deficit.

Hi Rowing dad

im in a similar boat as it were. ive just done a 6 week cross fit program and part of that was diet considerations. pretty much we were advised to do a couple of hundred cals short of what our weight maintenance requirements were. that plus the exercise should see a slow reduction in weight.
for example my daily calorie requirement was set at 2850. this was to maintain a 250lb body weight and i weighed in at 279lb (127kg) there are calculatiosn etc that you can use to determine this and myfitness pal is quite a good one. the goal was to lose .5 to 1 kg per week for the six week period. so a reduce calorie intake + exercise would see this achieved. at the end of the 6 weeks i had dropped 3.3kg, 1.9% body fat and my resting heartrate dropped from 95pm to 75pm.

so i am now maintaining the reduced calorie intake and started back on the erg and gym for exercise. i am aiming to drop down to between 90 and 100kg over the next year.

Hi Dreadfish,
Well done on keeping your challenge going for 6 weeks. If you can keep it going just think where you could be in a year!

No quick fixes I'm sure and I need to lock down into something that gives me at least .5kg most weeks. Interesting to track resting heart rate, mine was 55 a few weeks ago.

Rest day today. Hopefully up early for an erg session before Rowing Dad duties and then off to the rugby.
