Re: My New Erg Adventure for Weight Loss and Health!
Well, I finished the Beginner Pete Plan yesterday (all 120 workouts) and topped it of with a full marathon this morning. I am completely beat after spending 3 hours and 40 minutes on the rower. My weight loss goal was 40 pounds by the end of the Beginner Pete Plan, and am came within a pound (39 pounds lost). I can't say enough good things about the Concept II rower. I am planning on continuing my workout regimen with the Pete Plan after taking a much needed day off tomorrow. Good luck to all of my fellow rowers that are looking to take the weight off.

Excellent job Steve! Your words are motivation for me. I'm postponing the Beginner Pete Plan; week 2 was a little tougher than I thought. I'm focusing on getting the C2 Mud Season Madness Challenge completed along with the World Erg Challenge. Getting the 5k in each day is proving tough enough. May re-visit the BPP after that. I did just record a PB for the 2k, simply because I need to be at a party in a little while ha! Well whatever works I guess.smwoodburn wrote:Well, I finished the Beginner Pete Plan yesterday (all 120 workouts) and topped it of with a full marathon this morning. I'm slowly improving my diet which is also proving to be tough, especially at work where it seems people bring breakfast burritos or donuts on a daily basis. I usually refrain and stick with my oatmeal which always gives me energy for the entire morning.

From yet another Steve, congrats to you on the weight loss. I looked back through this thread and see that it didn't take all that long (about half a year). That probably seemed like a long time though. Still, 40ish pounds is a really nice loss. I hope I'm heading toward a similar loss.smwoodburn wrote:Well, I finished the Beginner Pete Plan yesterday (all 120 workouts) and topped it of with a full marathon this morning. Congrats too on the marathon. Is that 42,000+ meters? If so, that's a bunch. A major accomplishment. Again, congrats!

Yes, the Beginner Pete Plan is a 24 week plan, consisting of 5 workouts per week. I appreciate your congratulations. The marathon is 42,195 meters, and is a killer on the backside. Good luck to you with your weight loss goals.

Re: My New Erg Adventure for Weight Loss and Health!
im also doing the mud March challenge and my goal for this year is to be able to do a Marathon on the Erg.
i started rowing few months back - first 3-4 months it was supper difficult. last 3 months things are starting to get better - better technic, pace, endurance. i was able to do a 5Km session yesterday for the first time, and i plan to do the Pete plan by the end of the month.
i started rowing with 83 Kg and today i am 70 Kg in weight without any change to my normal diet.

The Beginner Pete Plan can be tough, however, I found that even on the days where the workout seemed too much, I simply slowed down and concentrated on completing it. Getting wrapped up in split times can be a bad thing sometimes. I occasionally threw a towel over my monitor and simply rowed and let my mind wander off. As far as work snacks, that is always tempting. I just started bringing my own healthier options and putting them in my desk. Good luck to you.IMHester wrote:Excellent job Steve! Congratulations on your 13Kg weight loss. That is great. I also did not make much changes to my diet, as I already ate mostly healthy foods. I did modify my portions and found that I could be satisfied with a little less. As far as your marathon goal, I did not necessarily train for it, other than rowing regularly for six months prior to my attempt. I settled in at a nice slow pace and just kept pulling. It is really more of a mind game trying to keep yourself occupied (music , TV) while you keep at it. The hardest part is the pain that you feel for sitting on the rower for that long. I would take breaks every 30-45 minutes to stand, use the restroom or stretch. The counter keeps ticking throughout these breaks, so that motivates you to get back on again. Good luck to you.

I started the regular Pete Plan today. It is a three week repeating plan, so I will see how that goes.hepting wrote:Wow - fantastic accomplishment! Re: My New Erg Adventure for Weight Loss and Health!
Just got on the scale (I rarely do) and I'm happy to report that I'm now at 299 lbs (135.5kg) from 315 lbs (142.8kg) since I got my erg 2.5 months ago! I've made small changes to my diet, but not many. I have also tried to decrease my meal portion size, sometimes I'm even successful at it . I'm still very heavy but I haven't been under the 300lb mark in years! It hasn't been easy - there have definitely been days when I didn't want to get on the erg but made myself do it for the Mud Challenge but I'm so glad I did so I could see the results of being consistent. I haven't felt this good in a long time.
Now the real fun is going to begin - I think I'll start the Beginner PP in couple of weeks when I get back into town (have to work out of town for an entire week). Seemed like a bit much a month ago. Sad I won't be able to row but it will be a good chance to let me body rest up before the 24 week fun!
Thanks again to all of you that responded to this thread, you've all been inspirational and motivational (as well as educational).

Great Job! Losing 1-2 lbs a week is the way to go and you are right on track. Stick with it... I am just starting week 6 of the Beginner Peter Plan - seems like a great way to build up the meters and improve fitness. It is also a plan - which for me anyways helps a lot. Good luck and keep posting progress - or possible setbacks. Lots of great experience on this board to help if needed.

Re: My New Erg Adventure for Weight Loss and Health!
Just got the 6500s done which is the longest I've ever rowed. Kind of giving up on going for times on these long rows; just focused on completing meters and using my legs. Do push hard on the interval pieces which I simply enjoy more than mindless long rows sigh.IMHester wrote:

When I travel I have found places with a Concept2 that will let me row for a few bucks.... If only more hotels would get onboard.
