getting to lightweight.

Post by nanagi » October 18th, 2014, 11:55 am

Hi,
Im 14 1/2 and the bmi said I was overweight :-(. Im 5,5 and 61.5 kg. And I row everyday of the week apart from sundays. I probably could lose a bit of weight (probs from my hips), but I need to get to 57 kg so lose 9 lbs. I think this would probably take a month and a week. But my first time trial this season is in 5 weeks !! I also have the metabolism of a snail and I really need to do this. Is it possible to become lightweight this fast? am i too fat to even consider becoming lightweight? ( I also will not grow anymore so I would be lightweight until I stop rowing but really need to get there and stay there, I was lightweight this summer and somehow gained loads of weight!!)

Look at your diet, there is proberly nothing wrong with you, but there is with your diet. Western food is packed with carbs, this has a big impact on our bloodsugarlevel. That is reason number one for getting overweight.
Cut down on carbs, eat more protein, loose fear for fats.

I notice you've grown an inch since your first posting, just as Terry promised! Things are happening fast for you.

Is the pressure to qualify LWT coming from your coach or is it something you have decided to do? Best to let your body adjust to a slight calorie deficit daily and lose weight gradually. Cut out some carbs, add some protein and keep rowing! Don't put the "crash" (loss of muscle mass) in crash diet; accept that everything worth doing takes more time than we might wish. Jack

Wrong. At fourteen you've not finished growing so BMI is more b**lsh*t for you than it is for the adult population.

Firstly cut out carbs after 4pm but make sure you have them for breakfast, mid morning and lunch time in the form of porridge oats, natural muesli, basmati/brown/wild rice, cous cous, gluten free pasta, fresh fruit, cut out bread and normal potatoes and replace with rye bread and sweet potatoes, cut out dairy milk and replace with rice/oat/almond milk.

Protein should come from fresh oily fish, chicken, turkey, nuts, seeds and ocassionally lamb and beef

Make sure you drink tap water between meals and not with food as this will help with ridding the body of excess water retention and toxins.

Try and eat 6 to 8 small meals a day instead of 3 large ones, this will increase metabolism and also aid in recovery.

If you get craving buy some large snackojacks as these are low calorie and will curb your appetite a little.

Good luck :-)
