This morning I got really excited because I actually bested yesterdays row for an all time best for me, 2 days in a row:

I seemed to be firing on all cylinders this morning. Up until about the 10min mark I was pacing 3000m but I just ran out of fuel and fizzled out over the last 2 min. But it is still my best time ever and only a hair away from 2,700m. If I can break 2500 a third day this week I will move on to 15min sessions beginning monday.

As far as watts go, I looked at my computer and it seems like it makes me choose whether to track avg MPH or watts. I like watching my MPH while I row cause it gives me a good idea of my pace and i'll know if i'm able to pick it up. I found this on the concept 2 site:

I punched in the numbers from this morning and it came up with 143.8. So i'm wondering 1) what the heck that means, and 2) if just using this calculator and tracking it daily is just as useful as having my computer do it for me?

Thanks, Wayne! I logged in some more meters this morning but we are still holding strong at 71. I don't think I have the power to move the ranking as often as you do. I'm still bringing up the rear in our group, but proud to say I broke 33,000m for the challenge with my row this morning!

TGF, moving up the rankings is not an issue, being in the rankings is. I am just happy you and the others joined up and we have just that little bit extra stimulus to go at it. If you haven't, you really need to get blocks for your feet set up, I can't imagine how awkward it must be with feet on the floor. Only a few more days and the challenge will be over, but the new affiliation season will start and more challenges will come.

Hello all. I have been looking at this ttread. just my first post to test that it work.
I have had concept 2 for 2 months now and have bean loosing almost 17 kg.
Also my puls have dropped to 78 . and my blood pressure is now very good.
I have tried alot of different trainig methods, but this is the best. Like the online logbook an rowproo very good.

Ditto OMN, I think we probably all agree, rowing is definitely the best exercise, and weightless,regime I've tried. I think we have lost about the same weight, I have lost between 15-20kg since New Year. Is Rowpro good? Easy to use? I am interested in Rowpro but it doesn't work with Apple, which is what I use at home. I am using a whiteboard with my target for that training session written in big letters, and music (much too loud for my wife) to keep me motivated during a training session.

OMN, or anyone, how is the attachment with rankings added to your posts? It seems to be automated but I can't see anything in my profile section about this, or in FAQ.

Yes row pro is easy to use . a lot of diffrent ting you can use. it is also possible to row online against other users. i use to watch tv series when i row. so i use netflix a lot. i am trying to get over 5000 meters every day.

Have you tried using bootcamp on your mac. think you can use rowpro for windows then.

OMN, thank you for the footer link! I have never used bootcamp on my mac, and it is actually set up in a different room, so may consider buying a small notebook and a larger monitor, if I can convince my financial supervisor.

Hi everyone!

Well i have good and bad news to report. First, here's how the last week looked for me:

First, the bad news. As you can see, I missed a day on the 10th. Since I started rowing, this is the first time I've missed a scheduled row day. The night before, I just slept wrong or something and I woke up with terrible pain on my shoulder blade. I tried to row but found it to be excruciating, so I decided to skip it that day as to not aggravate it further. The following day I felt better but not 100%. I still managed a row, although It was not at the performance I would have liked, as I was trying to break 2500m in every 12 min row, as some of you may remember.

For the good news.. despite not breaking 2500m on 3 days last week, I decided to go for my first ever 15min session today, and I finished it only moments ago. I must say I feel FANTASTIC right now. I decided to go for power on my stroke rather than the most strokes per minute as I had previously, and I think it really paid off. I concentrated as best I could on every phase of the stroke and tried to really focus on giving my all in every individual phase, trying to isolate each muscle group in my mind as I completed the stroke. Slow, but with power.

As you can see, despite only having an average of 14.5 spm, only half a stroke above my LOWEST spm ever, I managed to maintain a speed of 7.6mph, my third HIGHEST speed ever! All while doing 3 minutes more than I've ever done on the rower, but still maintained a split time of 2:25.4!

Most importantly, I kept my sustained average heart rate at 147bpm, tied for my HIGHEST ever. In fact, looking through my stats, i've only ever kept that heart rate up ONCE before when doing a 1k time trial, and that was only for a duration of 2 minutes! After the row I felt completely wiped, but also pumped and really proud of what I had just done. It really felt like I had never put so much effort into a row before, it felt like one of my most honest and accomplished rows so far and I am really psyched to share this with everyone.

I also weighed in this morning and am down another 2lbs for a total loss of 54lbs since new years!

I am just so happy to have done a solid 15min session. I thought I could make it through the 15min but I thought I would completely bomb out at the end and have much worse stats all around. Looking back at that first day when I literally fell off the rower after less than 3 minutes it is so hard for me to believe how far i've come. I know people here outrow me by thousands of miles but I can't truly express how far away this day seemed when I was laying on the floor barely able to breath that first day back in february.

Thank you everyone here for all your support, it has been such a big help for me and I promise to keep rowing and keep improving performance and health.

TGF, excellent glad to see your improvements. I'm no expert, but 147 bpm sounds high to me.

My heart rate monitor calculates your max heart rate based on age, height, and weight, and resting heart rate, and alarms if you are going too high so you can cool off. Currently after my weight loss it sets my upper limit at 165 and alarms if I go over 155, and sets my target for between 125-150. It alarmed once during the workout, and I GLADLY slowed to lower my rate.. :lol:

Wow, thats some high tech device. As I said, I'm no expert, I think I should look at one of those, can you send a link? My workout rate seems to be about 125-130, with the occasional higher rate if I'm trying to squeeze in a few meters. So, one team challenge done! I am really thrilled at just having being able to take part. Unfortunately they only have 3 team challenges a year. Maybe we should look at creating our own goals as an Affiliation for each month or something? Hopefully the other two members of our team will join the Affiliation too.

If anybody else is reading this, we're an open Affiliation, Japan & Friends Indoor Rowers, and looking for more to join us and take part in team events as they come along, and perhaps set up some internal goals also. The Affiliation is named Japan & Friends because I live in Japan, but no affiliation to Japan is needed, just a rowing machine and positive meters. B)

Time to reset your HR limits, it's holding you back. Remember that 220-age is a pile of steaming stuff and the only way to find your maxHR is with a step-test to failure.
