Back on board after a long absence

Post by nchasan » September 3rd, 2010, 1:34 pm

Hi folks. Well, I tore up my knee last year and had surgery which cut my efforts short at about 500,000 m. Now after a prolonged absence I am back on the ERG and hitting it pretty hard.

Currently I am six weeks into my new program, which is a strictly Paleo diet, running 2.5 miles a day, lifting weights every day, and rowing 5000 m at the end of the day before I hit the sack...I am making good progress, down 20# in the past 6 weeks.

My goal is to stay committed down to single digit body fat...we will see...

But its good to be back!

Neil

As of this a.m., I am down 25# - the key is the blending of eating less of lean meat, fruits and vegetables exclusively in several smaller meals a day, AND exercising more than once a day to keep my metabolism humming along. I am up to 3.5 miles running, lifting a 45# kettle bell and doing a variety of TRX exercises and putting in a decent 5000 m row in the late evening before I hit the sack. I usually try to sprint the last 250 meters. I really sleep well!!

Making progress...this a.m. I hit the scales showing a 28# loss so far...got to love it...I notice that I am not as hungry, that I look forward to working out, and that I feel better and better. Also, my capacity to train has continued to improve as I gain fitness and improved health. I am running harder, rowing harder and lifting heavier. It's all good! The hardest aspect of all of this is the third training session of the day. After running and lifting, finding my way to pull a good 5000m is pretty tough. Since I sprint in the last 250m or so, I am really baked when I am done...but I recover pretty quickly and sleep like a baby.

Still at it. I am stuck on 30# down, but I am not worried since my belt is tightened a couple more notches. I am probably building muscle to offset the fat loss now since I am working out harder this week than I was a week or so ago. I am being really disciplined about my diet though. Sticking to a strict Paleo Diet (according to the book by Loren Cordain) though, and feel like I have been almost 100% committed (the occasional chocolate chip cookie my daughter makes gets me!) But whereas I was only able to run at 60% of my body weight without knee pain, now I am up to 85% and whereas I was only running at 10min per mile pace, now I am on 7.5 min per mile pace, and while my 5K ERG was a 25 min experience now it is a 20:20 min experience so all is well. My admin told me that she can't call me Santa Claus behind my back any longer...nice. ... :D Making progress! (you can see the video of my Alter G here http://bit.ly/cTd8Zm
