Connecting?

Post by Kangaroo » April 4th, 2007, 12:32 pm

Just as a matter of interest, when you want to use RowPro or any of the other software to race, do you connect your ergo to the computer? if you do, how do you?

It is a usb connection for a PM3 or PM4 and a serial connection for the PM2+. So a wired connection is required. If you have a PM3 or 4, they should have a usb port on the bottom. The PM4 has wireless with something called ANT, but I haven't seen any new info on that since the PM4 was released, and that is a communication protocol between ergs, and is not used to connect wirelessly to the computer (as far as I know).

Ergmonitor replaces the PM altogether, and is some sort of jerry rigged mic hookup on the fly wheel that goes into a mic or line in jack (I am interested in ergmonitor, but don't have a sound card in my rowing computer and so I haven't tried to set this up; it may not be difficult).

Where would you find a USB connection? Comes with the software? Buy it online?

If your Concept2 has a PM3 or PM4 then it should have shipped with a USB cable. One end (the larger more squarish Male connector) plugs into the bottom of the PM3/PM4 the other end (more rectangular male connector) plugs into a standard female Universal Serial Bus (USB) outlet which a standard plug on most current generation PCs.

If you have a PM2+ (Concept2 Model C option) it will have 2 phone jack like plugs on the rear of the monitor to attach it to a PC you need a 9-pin serial adapter to plug it into the computer.

If you have a PM2 you won't be able to connect it to your computer and will need to upgrade. Though I actually have a PM2+ monitor that anyone is welcome to have, in fact I'd also be willing to part with my RJ-11 (phone jack) to 9 pin serial adapter.

Since I've upgraded to a PM3 recently.
