Real Time Loop Users

Just making a thread to see if I can find some of the rowers I've been hanging with on the Loop.

It's a super simple feature, but a great way to log a few more meters before or after a workout. I'll either chill in one spot or sprint the track until I find a real user then see if they want to stick together and push each other for a few laps. It's been cool just knowing someone else is on the other end of the blip I'm rowing next to. :D

I'll try to jump on here when I finish up a row just for sheer curiosity. Cheers!

Just finished a session. Planned on only doing a couple laps but found a skier that had a good pace for a 5k and hung with them, then took off to catch another rower who took me through another 3k at a quicker clip. Both from England.

I noticed it tells you how many laps someone has done next to their initials/icon, but it either lags or everyone technically starts at a little different position, because both times the number changed well after the 1k line. Cool feature though, especially if you're jumping in with people, so you kind of know how long they've been at it.

Tried it the first time yesterday, but probably my WLAN is not good enough to provide data in the basement. Connected and I could see the loop, but then no data updated during the row.
Synching the logbook is working fine, so internet connection is working. No other idea for the reason.

I've been riding all of my easy meters on the BikeErg on the loop. A couple of times the meters have become less easy because I have trouble letting people pass me.

How do you tell which erg they are using?

I do my BikeErg warmups on the loop. Today one person was about my pace, but I'd sprint for :30 (part of my warmup) a couple times, catch him/her but then noticed he/she didn't like that and would up the pace to get past me again. :D

BikeErg's have a yellow or orange box on the avatars with a barely legible bike icon in it, skiergs are blue. RowErgs have nothing.

Speaking of barely legible, avatars with photos are next to useless, one face more or less looks the same as another, at least to me. Other photos i have to attempt to match their speed just to discern what it might be.

My avatar here is the same as there. If you see me, say hi.

You shouldn't laugh at people who have no restraint.

I just noticed that the BikeErg's lap number goes up every 500m. Makes sense considering how C2 categorizes them in the WOD's and challenges.

Just took me a while to figure out why people who hadn't actually passed me had jumped laps.

Hi there,

I am looking at ways I can incorporate this feature into a training session for my club.

Perhaps they set off and I try to lap them or something similar.

A nice feature of the Erg Data app.

Your club can also set up private races that are really row-alongs. Rowing time goals have everyone start and end together. https://www.concept2.com/service/softwa ... ace-online

At our club you'd hit the problem that old ergs never die. People's personal ergs have a mix of pm2, pm3, pm4 and pm5 so you'd be locking out some people if you made workouts loops or private races.

Regatta has a racing feature as well: https://teamregatta.com/blog/introducin ... ual-racing

They only offer the private version to clubs that use the club version of their software, but the public races mirror many of the outdoor and indoor regattas on Regatta Central. Has anyone tried this?

Do people using the Real Time Loop have the same avatar here and there?
When during the day are you most likely to be rowing?

I've been mostly rowing evenings (Eastern time zone) and have completely enjoyed using Real Time Loop to see some friendly faces. There are often somewhere between 5 and 10 users rowing at the same time, which isn't huge but is a welcome sense of (small) community.

Sometimes I'll just do my own thing and row away. Sometimes I'll try to match the pace of another rower for a lap or two.

I know some people have complained that Real Time Loop isn't everything they want... but it's just right for me. Hope to see you online sometime!

Its okay but I think its early on in the development and Concept 2 are fishing to see the number of potential users and if its worth taking it to the next level.

Really wouldn't be that hard these days to put actual boats on the water and row round say a 2000m course loop with scenery with a fixed view looking forward from the back of the boat. That would probably satisfy 90% of users.

Considering any time I login and check there are at least 5 users online, the uptake has been excellent.

Will not take many users before its congested and at that point you simply do what we used to with RowPro, you begin to split out the paces to say those rowing below and those rowing above 2:00 and run two courses. Its always better to row with others at about the same pace.
