Cannot connect New ErgData app to PM5 (iOS)

Hello, I am having problems with the iPhone ErgData (version 2.0.0) app. It appears that PM5 is successfully connecting to the app. However, the iPhone app is not able to connect to the PM5.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there any specific sequence of steps, user actions, that I need to perform in order to have the 2 devices successfully shake hands and talk to each other? (I have not had this problems with the older app.)

I am running firmware version 32.
On the iPhone > settings > bluetooth > ... PM5 is Connected just fine.

If I understand correctly from Rowalong's latest YT, you first need to check if you have the latest firmware for your PM5 (link above), and if not, update firmware first, before installing the new Ergdata app. Hope it helps!

Thanks for your advice @bongo. So, yes, I was thinking exactly the same thing, 2 days ago, I went ahead and updated my old firmware to the very latest version using the Concept2 Utility. The update was successful, and now I have version 32. The latest version. (I confirmed the number in PM5 utilities display).

The problems has never gone away. PM5 is showing that it has successfully connected to the App. The App keeps looking for PM5 (exact wording: "Searching for PM5s. C2 ID 430382031" followed by a spinning icon). The iPhone's Bluetooth is ON and recognizes PM5 as successfully connected.

I am a software dev. It seems to me like the 2-way handshake between the 2 devices is failing. This is frustrating, as the *old* version of the app was working just fine. Am I an isolated case? Or are there any other ideas of how to work around the problem?

Quick followup. Just completed my workout session, and here's my report for anybody who might have the same problem with ErgData (v 2.0.0 for iOS).

I tried it again, but nothing has changed, still cannot connect with PM5. Accidentally, I found an app called ErgZone on the App Store. It took some time to set up my interval training. Then, I fumbled around trying to find my workout session I've just saved. But then the connection works! PM5 connects to ErgZone, ErgZone connects to PM5. User interface in ErgZone takes some getting used to (I really liked the old app's "official" Erg Data simple table UI). Also, it's annoying that they display numeric values with decimal points. Which is an information overkill in my opinion.

However, the new ErgData 2.0.0 is a disappointment. The iOS app connectivity needs some fixing!

Hi,
I've exactly the same issue.
After update of the App, the connection with the PM5 was ok except it did not sync at the end of the workout and the PM5 crashed. Then I thought also it was a firmware issue and I've done the upgrade without issue. Now the App keeps looking for PM5, like you, with a spinning icon. The iPhone's Bluetooth is ON and recognizes PM5 as successfully connected.
Are there any other users concerned? Any idea to solve this?

Have been experiencing the same issues as you, since day one of the new App. Tried updating the firmware to the beta version as a last result. Still no acceptance from the phone. (iOS) and no reply from C2 as when to expect a fix or workaround. Wish I'd never upgraded.

Out of curiosity, what iPhone version are you currently on and what update?

On android you'd remove (forget) the remembered bluetooth pairing from the phone to the PM5. Then start from scratch in the ErgData app asking the app to find and connect to the PM5. Not sure if the same works for apple iOS.

Currently iPhone XS, software version 15.5
As a work around until there is a fix for the new erg data app. I installed the app for PM3 and PM4 then connected my HRM (Polar H10) to the PM5 and used the old cable connection as opposed to bluetooth to connect to the phone. It worked perfectly.

Glad you are up an running. Assume you tried disconnecting your Bluetooth connection in settings and shutting the phone down, restarting, then turning BT back on. I had to do similar a time or two with my 6S before upgrading.

Can you post details on the cable you are using? Older iphones with the older ergdata needed a special cable that is no longer made. It's be nice to have a known good cable posted. (do you know if the cable worked with the older ergdata?)

(aside: cable to PM5, polar H10 ANT+ to PM5, polar H10 BTLE to Polar Beat is how I do workouts -- your setup is very similar. I like Polar's HR capture better than the PM5/ergdata for average and max HR).

Hi, I've updated the APP to version 2.0.1, deactivated the BT and then rebooted the iPhone (13 Pro IOS 15.5): it worked!
Connection was correctly established and the training was succesfully saved on the PM5 and on the APP.
Hope it will help you ;-)

The cable I purchased through C2 website about six years ago, sorry. its the original (30 pin iPhone 4 connector) plus the adaptor for lightning. It worked with every app version on the PM3 and the new upgraded PM5. Also, updated to the latest app release last night. Still the same issue, PM5 says its connected but the app just keeps spinning. Very frustrating.

For Tsnor. I have never been able to connect my H10 to the PM5 and the polar beat app. Also, I must connect the HRM to the PM5 first then open the (old) app or it will not connect.
Still trying different sequences to get the new app working.

I also experienced troubles with the new ergdata app. It looks fancy, but all is said then. I got mourned to connect it with my PM5, but after the first training an error occurred and all data were lost, both on the PM5 and in the App. Today it went slightly better, again errors reported after the training, but the data were nog lost; but time and distance were wrongly presented in the overview. Though transfer to Strava went ok .....

Apparantly too early release of the new App.
