Creating Custom workouts on PC or phone
Creating Custom workouts on PC or phone
Hi all, I'm new to Concept 2 but have various other sports training gear and wondering what I'm missing. The Rowerg supports bluetooth and USB as well as custom workouts and Ant+ FEC but I can't for the life of me work out how to create a set of custom workouts and transfer them to the machine to then use. I can't believe that the PM5 buttons are the only way to create a workout while sitting in my cold garage. I only have a Fenix 5+ which doesn't support FEC on the rower so don't seem to be able to control it from there which might have been an option, although not ideal.
I'd assumed there would be a bit of software included to create and edit workouts to be used on the machine, or even through the logbook interface. I've seen that I can pay for some apps (which seem to have poor reviews) which can control the rower, but I don't really fancy another subscription for something so basic.
So, what have I missed? There's certainly a lot of talk about structured training on rowing sites, so assume people are doing this?

You can download a workout to the PM5. For example look at rowpro "RowPro sets up your row on the Concept2 PM" https://www.digitalrowing.com/
But very few people do that. Most people just set up workouts once and then use "rerow" or "favorites", or they set workloads up again each time they use them.
If you look at concept2's workout of the day ... instead of having you download the workout C2 gives you the button sequence to key it in. Agree it's an opportunity for the future, and something that is currently lacking.

So the only way to do this right now is to pay for third party software? That's surprising, I thought there would at least be a way to transfer them via USB or something out of the box. So all the hundreds of workout programs I've seen out there people are manually entering? I'm loving the rower, but I feel like there needs to be some competition in this space to get the technology up to date!

You can do a lot with the python pyrow package. That's using the CSAFE interface (over USB) to program the PM5. You'll need a Raspberry Pi Zero (as a minimum) to run the pyrow code.

You could try Ergzone....that allows you to set up sessions on your phone and then once connected send them to the Erg. Works well IMHO.davelusty wrote: ↑March 30th, 2021, 10:49 amHi all, I'm new to Concept 2 but have various other sports training gear and wondering what I'm missing. I tried this this morning and although it’s not what I was thinking it certainly fills the need. Since I had to run the C2 app anyway to sync it makes no difference which app runs and since this is free and still syncs it’s perfect. Nice interface too
Re: Creating Custom workouts on PC or phone
Can't remember exactly how, because my workouts a largely uninteresting, but you can stick a USB in the back of the pm5 and save custom workouts to it without any new software. The instructions are on the C2 website.davelusty wrote: ↑March 30th, 2021, 12:00 pmSo the only way to do this right now is to pay for third party software?
