Rowpro, online racing and HR

Post by Simon PTM » January 11th, 2021, 6:24 am

I have comeback to the the ergo after too many years of and to keep the interest going I've tried running rowpro.

Does anyone else have any issues with the HR and online racing? I can do just about anything as long as the HR is not connected. as soon as I connect the HR then Rowpro stops working. It's connected via USB and both PM5 and Rowpro are latest versions

There was some discussion about using bluetooth and USB cable at the same time is not supported.

I use 2 x bluetooth (ergdata and HR monitor) at the same time no with more problems then synching up a bluetooth headset with your phone (sometimes you just gotta power stuff down and bring it all back up again). Maybe pull the cable and try Bluetooth for both.

Also, someone (was it Carl Watts?) posted a bring up order for Rowpro that made things work better. I don't use rowpro, so didn't grab it and now I can't find it.

What HR system are you using ?

ANT+ works fine but there is a specific start up sequence if you use ErgData on the phone as well.

Are you sure its stops working ? The heartrate did not show up until you start rowing on the older version of rowpro it showed 0.

Not really noticed on the latest version but not having any problems of late.

Generally you connect your HR and Ergdata BEFORE opening Rowpro with the PM5 connected to the PC via USB. You cannot connect ErgData to the PM5 via Bluetooth if you open Rowpro first, it just doesn't work.

I would say if your HR setup is Bluetooth then you MUST connect this first before opening RowPro. If your HR is Bluetooth and it crashes rowpro, then your stuffed get an ANT+ HR strap.

I have quite a long equipment prep sequence that I'm sure many people couldn't be bothered with and if anything does go wrong you need to shut everything down including the computer and start again.

The PM5 is pretty much maxed out once you run the ANT+ HR strap, USB to the computer for RowPro and the Bluetooth to your phone running ErgData all at the same time.

Carl summed it up.

I'm running the latest version of Rowpro. The key for me is to connect my HR monitor (ANT+) to the PM5 first. I then connect my phone to the PM5 so I can run ergdata. The last step is to connect the USB cable to my laptop running Rowpro.

This sequence works for me. Any variation and Rowpro does not recognize the erg when I connect the USB cable to the laptop.

As above, at least it is possible to run everything at the same time if your prepared to do it every row.

Still have the odd problem now and again transitioning to a second row or cool down straight after the first row without a complete restart.

I think you need to enter the second row slower and reduce the number of key presses in a given time to give RowPro time to do whatever it does in the background to reset before Checkin to the second row. Hopefully with each new version of RowPro this will only get more reliable.

Maybe it just needs an even faster version of the PM5. I have the same problem with the V1 and V2 versions but have not tried the latest V3 version. RowPro clearly knows what version it is connecting to as the text by the green connection light at the bottom reflects this.
