RowPro and heart rates
Does anyone know what formulas are used to calculate the HR ranges for the different exercise types? My problem is that I'm 40 yo, my resting HR is 51 and max HR is 215. I can row for 30 minutes quite easily at a 180 HR while this us what the software thinks I should use at max effort. In other words, the ranges given are useless. It seems like I would need to calculate the ranges myself, but don't really know what percentages of HRR should be used for the different types of workouts.

If you're happy with the percentages approximations then the numbers suggest you need to get up to 133 before you're properly exercising (UT2 base).
166 is your UT1 base and you may move into AT at 182 (although that's really just 80% and who knows if 80% is right for you)
Then Oxygen Transportation at 190 and pure Anaerobic somewhere in the 200s maybe 207. HTH

This was my Bible for year of rowing. Print it off and add your HR bands to it, then stick it to the wall by your rower.
Personally I wouldn't use anything in RowPro for training. The last time I checked years ago the analysis didn't work either as it took your pace as a linear function and it should have used Watts instead.
RowPro is great for the Online rowing, thats all I use it for. If you want decent Data use ErgData on your phone (can be used at the same time as RowPro) as the uploads from it to the Concept 2 online LogBook contain the most information.

I tried to adjusting my age in RowPro and that allowed me to easily derive the equations that it uses to compute the bands. The only reason why I decided to use it is that it supposedly gives me progressively harder training plans. Don't really care about any of the graphics gimmicks and the first thing I do is turn off the 3D mode. It does allow me to compete against an old me by setting my last row from a similar exercise as the pace boat, which is kind of fun.

I do something similar. I use the free spirits heart rate band calculator to get my bands, then adjust my age in RowPro to make the heart rate ranges match my free spirits calculated ranges. UT2 I think is “easy”, UT1 is about “slow pressure”, then PS, TL, and MSS are AT and above.
