PM4 Ergdata Connection to Android
Hi,
I am trying to connect my Android OnePlus5 to a PM4 monitor. I have a cable which fits fine but once connected to both nothing happens. When I start rowing nothing is picked up.
The firmware is 318 as required. I have my phone set to USB otg.
Any ideas anyone?

Re: PM4 Ergdata Connection to Android
I presume you have the Concept 2 cable from the PM4 to the Phone ?
Not tried it with my PM4 because I needed the USB port on the PM4 for connection to the PC and RowPro.
Have since moved to the PM5, you can Bluetooth your phone to the PM5 for ErgData and use the remaining USB port on it for the PC and RowPro.
The PM5 will run Ergdata AND RowPro at the same time.
I have stuck with Samsung for phones, currently have an A3 (2017) but will likley update it to an A30 or the likes when the battery finally dies or they finally roll out 4G voLTE over here.

I have a generic usb-c to usb-b cable....assumed it would work with that. All stuff I've read have suggested it would

Re: PM4 Ergdata Connection to Android
First test if your cable will work with an USB mouse. You should get a mouse pointer on the screen of your phone, and be able to move it around with the mouse. (Pretty cool actually.)winniewinser wrote: ↑October 15th, 2019, 2:23 amI have a generic usb-c to usb-b cable....assumed it would work with that. All stuff I've read have suggested it would
If the mouse doesn't work, your cable is not an OTG cable (or your phone doesn't support OTG).
And even worse:
Even if the mouse does work with the cable+phone, you can't be sure that your PM4 will. I had to try several Android phones before I succeeded. On one of them, I got the mouse working, but not my PM3.

Re: PM4 Ergdata Connection to Android
Thanks but I can't test a mouse as the cable is usb-c to usb-b. The latter connects with the PM4 the other straight to my phone. I can't connect a mouse to either end unless I'm missing something.Allan Olesen wrote: ↑October 15th, 2019, 2:58 amFirst test if your cable will work with an USB mouse. I'll check the cable...it was only cheap of eBay but seemed to be the right one.

Re: PM4 Ergdata Connection to Android
Totally off subject but I have recently got the Samsung A50 instead of the S10 i was going to get. Really happy with it, and it's £15 a month cheaperCarl Watts wrote: ↑October 15th, 2019, 1:57 am

Re: PM4 Ergdata Connection to Android
Found this which implies that the cable I have should work.

I'll give it another go later.

Re: PM4 Ergdata Connection to Android
You are right, that you can't check with a mouse in your case. I just assumed that your cable had a normal female USB connection at the other end. Sorry.winniewinser wrote: ↑October 15th, 2019, 3:08 am

Anyway, under what kind of description was this cable sold?
I have seen some "gender-changing" USB cables for Android phones, which didn't have the special internal connections, which are needed for an OTG connection. If you have one of those, you are out of luck with that cable. But if it was sold as an OTG cable or perhaps an Android printer cable, then there is a chance that the cable actually works, and your phone is the problem.

Re: PM4 Ergdata Connection to Android
Personally I would move to a new PM5 and use Bluetooth if your seriously into your rowing and sell the PM4.
It took a few years to get the PM5 hardware/firmware right but its now a really good monitor, I'm not seeing any PM5 failures, as long as you only use top quality D Alkaline batteries that don't leak.

Re: PM4 Ergdata Connection to Android
Thanks all
I don't have my own C2 so have to make do with gym machines and various monitors. If I had space at home I'd get one
I'll try a different machine and cable and if that doesn't work well so be it.
Cheers

Re: PM4 Ergdata Connection to Android
I'm quite new to this. Have my PM4, have my cable (including a USB C adaptor) and have my phone. Erg data installed on the phone.
I plug it in, nothing happens. No option on the PM4 for connecting a phone with a cable. No option on Erg Data for connecting a PM4.
Help!

Re: PM4 Ergdata Connection to Android
There is a old version of the app specifically for the PM4. Be aware, the cable has to be OTG capable.

Buy a new PM5 if you want to start using ErgData.

Re: PM4 Ergdata Connection to Android
It sounds like you’ve had a good experience transitioning to the PM5! The Bluetooth feature adds convenience for using ErgData while keeping the USB port available. I’m also sticking with Samsung—looking forward to upgrading when the time comes. The A30 should be a nice step up! Have you noticed any significant improvements with the PM5?Carl Watts wrote: ↑October 15th, 2019, 1:57 amI presume you have the Concept 2 cable from the PM4 to the Phone ?
