Ergdata Crash

Post by dougandlinda » October 9th, 2019, 8:29 pm

I have a new Model D rower that I already love, and for two days now at what seems like the same time in my workout Ergdata crashes and I lose connection with the PM5. I also lose the record of my workout.

My second issue is my wife did two workouts today and they are showing up in the memory of the PM5 but will not transfer to the log.

Likely just rookie errors on our part but would appreciate help!
Thanks
Doug

Whats the Firmware version on the PM5 monitor ? its in the Product ID Screen.

Are you using the Android or iOS version of Ergdata ?

Are the batteries in the PM5 good ?

I'm finding Ergdata awesome, today RowPro crashed on me near the very end of a 10Km row so I synchronized the Ergdata log to the concept 2 online logbook and so much more information uploaded like your drag factor and total stroke count. First time I have done this.

No problems here with a PM5 on V29 and the latest version of ErgData Android, it faultless.

Hi Carl,

My Firmware Version is 166. Using an android phone and batteries are perfect.

Thanks

Hi, Ergdata has dropping connection for me as well. It doesn't crash, just stops recording mid-session with the "Please connect PM" text in the bottom as if it had never connected. If I finish the session and turn wireless on in PM5, it connects right up again, which leads me to believe it might be related to PM5 and not Ergdata.
Doesn't seem to follow a pattern - sometimes it lasts for 30 min, sometimes drops after 5 min.

I tried using it without USB stick, but still got a dropped connection.
Worked fine until mid-September or so.

You describe what I called a crash more appropriately. Same issue.

This is to both of you, Doug&Linda and Ernits

Send an email to rowing@concept2.com with details of your PM5 firmware, your ergdata version, your phone model and your android version. If you can give them the sequence of events needed to recreate the error that will help.

Sent Concept2 an e-mail, thanks Citroen.

Some anecdotal data:
I removed the USB stick even though I don't think it was causing the issue. I also read that Polar Websync causes issues with Concept2 Utility and some time in the past I did switch over to syncing my Polar M400 over the Android app over the USB cable with PC. So I deleted both Polar Flow and Polar Beat apps - the latter one I needed to update firmware on my H10 belt in order to enable sending HR data to two BLE devices simultaneously.

Connected H10 over BLE (not ANT+) with PM5 and it sent HR to Ergdata - so I didn't pair the belt with Ergdata separately and ran my M400 at the same time, also over Bluetooth. And this time, I managed to complete 4x15" / 2"R session with no hickups.

You should both get a reply on Monday. They're very responsive with their Zendesk problem tickets (I reported an error with the early support beta version of Ergdata and got a reply next working day).

Note: I don't recommend joining the beta program unless you do software support for your day job (and have done for 38 years).

A slight update.
Since uninstalling Polar Flow and Polar Beat apps from my phone, I haven't had Ergdata drop any more. Over the last three sessions lasting around an hour, everything worked compared to before when I could maybe get a 2k in without a drop. So for me the issue is solved.

I received this awesome reply from Josh at Concept 2 that solved my problem.

Hi Doug,

Thank you for contacting Concept2 about this.

Go to your phone's Bluetooth settings. Do you see a PM5 listed in the devices? If so then that is the problem and you need to tap to forget the PM5 and get it out of the list, then you should pair properly within the ErgData app. The other thing that needs to be done in order for the app to work is "allowing locations" in your Androids settings and having it set to Hi Accuracy.

https://www.concept2.com/service/softwa ... ng-devices

The reason you did not get any notification o fa firmware update when you inserted the USB is because your PM5 is already up to date with firmware. Only when there is a new version available will the USB offer an update.

What you are observing in the SPM during the ret interval is normal.

Let me know if you are still experiencing connection issues after checking the things mentioned above.
