PM5, ErgData, and iPhone Health App heart rate data missing
PM5, ErgData, and iPhone Health App heart rate data missing
I have a Polar Bluetooth belt monitor that I connect to my PM5 without issue. I also use the ErgData app to capture and log my workouts. The workout summary data is shared with my Heath app; however, not my heart rate information.
Should I not connect my monitor to the PM5 and connect to my iPhone instead? Will the ErgData log my heart rate to the log?
I would like the best of both worlds here. How should I do this?
Thanks,
Jon

HR data in iOS from ErgData
Morning, all:
True, I perhaps a'm being a bit excessive in my desire to see all the data, but I am wondering if anyone has figure out how to reliably deliver constant HR readings from a chest strap HRM (in my case, Wahoo TICKR) to iOS (e.g. the Health and Activity apps).
I managed once to have all the data show up, in which case it would seem the TICKR somehow delivered the data directly. Second-by-second readings showed up in the Health app as having come via bluetooth (bluetooth pic beside each reading), but the data seem not to have been directly associated with the TICKR. Can't seem to figure out how the bluetooth data were delivered directly during the ErgData session; the ErgData averages also show up in the data series (with an ErgData picture beside each data point).
Otherwise, ErgData seems only to shoot over the HR average for each split, interval or session, depending on how one sets up the session.
My setup is an iPhone 7 connected via cable to a PM4. I have tried both direct bluetooth connection of the TICKR to the phone first, as well as an ANT connection to the PM4. I have not tried connecting the TICKR to the apple watch (which I know doesn't work for rowing, so I charge it during my rowing workouts).
I use RiM Solo for on-the-water workouts...still haven't figured out how best to get those constant readings into Health via the TCX download. Strave does not seem to pass HR data to Health.
Thanks in advance for the read and any insight.

Re: HR data in iOS from ErgData
Probably not what you want to hear, but I couldn't figure out a good way to do this. I ended up using an apple watch to get data into the Health app and then use the HR monitor connected to the erg or RIM in the boat and saving that data separately (on rowsandall).
I use health to basically just keep track of exercise minutes and activity. I use the detailed data from painsled (or ergdata) and RIM (or speedcoach) to guide training decisions.

Re: PM5, ErgData, and iPhone Health App heart rate data missing
Heya, Jon:
Funny...just posted a similar issue today. I did not notice your note before I sent it in.
I get the HR data, but just the average. I'm using a PM4, and in the past it would seem that that average HR was reported to Health regardless of the connection method (ANT to the PM4 or BT to the phone, which is connected to the PM4).
Interestingly, all the HR data appear on the Concept2 log.
Again, though, just the average for each split, interval or session. Only one day were the second-by-second data reported and I cannot figure out how...

Re: HR data in iOS from ErgData
Got it.
At least I get the average for each piece in the Health app. And I know it's possible, because it accidentally happened once. Just don't know how...

Identical topics merged.
Re: PM5, ErgData, and iPhone Health App heart rate data missing
Taking a more scientific approach to the issue, today, I warmed up having linked the chest belt to the phone before opening ErgData, but did not go into settings to choose the belt (not sure if this matters, but I noticed in the next step that the belt at first showed "not connected"). Prior to the work piece, I went into setting and chose the belt. (PM5, btw, at the boat house).
Alas, neither sent the real-time HR data, only increments equal to the splits (100m, in this case, as I set the mins for both pieces).
Next piece I'll attempt to not link the belt to the phone first, but go into the app and choose the belt. After that, I'll revisit ANT-only (via PM4) and after that I will re-attempt the connection to the watch first.
Interestingly, I am recalling from the data that the real-time data came across that I had attempted first to connect the strap to the watch. That seemed to fail, but I wonder if the watch somehow picked up the connection to the strap via the phone (since it already was linked to the phone).
Thanks for listening...

Re: PM5, ErgData, and iPhone Health App heart rate data missing
So...today I linked the watch (which i was not wearing) to the strap first, then linked the strap to the PM4 via ANT. Phone was wired to the PM4. Worked! Ergdata sent the split averages, but the watch tracked the real-time data. Both feeds ended up in Health.
