RowPro and Linux
Hi, I checked the archives and Linux hasn't been mentioned in a few years so is anyone using RP on a Linux machine? I am not very computer savvy, but think it would be necessary to use virtual machine software so RP would think it was on a Win box. Anyhow, if anyone is doing this, I would greatly appreciate the details as to how they made it work. Thanks.

There's no version of RP that runs on Linux. It's Windows or OSX only.

Citroen, that is the thing about a virtual machine, it emulates the other operating system, thereby "fooling" the program so it thinks it is on a compatible operating system.

If you have a full scale version of Win7, Win8.1 or Win10 running in a Virtualbox then that's likely to work. Those things appear to a userspace program as though the virtual machine is running on the bare metal.underwater wrote: ↑October 21st, 2018, 11:03 amCitroen, that is the thing about a virtual machine, it emulates the other operating system, thereby "fooling" the program so it thinks it is on a compatible operating system.
That is in no way the same as running RowPro on Linux. Quite frankly that is the biggest thing that's wrong with RowPro - they spent lots of money / development time on building for OSX and forgot that lots of Windows users are moving to Linux. If they'd built a Linux version they might even have had a chance of getting that running on a ARM based Raspberry Pi (which has full 1080p HDMI graphics).
Best of luck hacking at getting it running in any kind of Linux virtual guest machine.

I've been doing more reading and it looks like the VM might not be an option for me because I would have to buy another Windows license. There is another option called Wine that may be a possibility, but that is iffy. I hope somebody else can shed more light on this.

WINE provides some Windows callable services on Linux. You can try but don't be surprised when it doesn't work.underwater wrote: ↑October 21st, 2018, 11:39 amI've been doing more reading and it looks like the VM might not be an option for me because I would have to buy another Windows license. Yes, I know, Wine does not list RP as a compatible application.

Why would it? It's a specialist, niche product used by a tiny number of users worldwide.underwater wrote: ↑October 21st, 2018, 12:27 pmYes, I know, Wine does not list RP as a compatible application.
