Hi, I was wondering if anybody here knows if this low cost smart card reader works with the C2 Logcards.
My goal is to get the workout data (saved on logcard while in the gym) uploaded to runkeeper.com using the ergkeeper.com site. This reader costs abouth a fourth of the Athena ASE IIIe that is offered by Concept2.com and half the cost of the OmniKey CardMan 3121...

Any thoughts on this?

The Smartcard Reader can generally be used with smart card read / write terminal devices / applications, such as ATM and POS terminals, public telephony, e-commerce, Internet purchases, personal certification, prepay systems etc.

The Reader supports various international standards including: ISO7816 for IC card standard, PC / SC 1.0 for Windows standard, Microsoft WHQL, EMV for European Master card and Visa standard USB-IF CCID standard.

It may work with the Concept 2 Utility. But they only test with the OmniKey 3121 (which is the one I have) and the Athena IIIe.

If your cheap reader works you should let Concept2 know about it.

I'm awaiting the arrival of the C2 logcard I ordered from concept2.nl.

I'm doubting what to do, spend 23€ plus shipping on the omni3121 or get the 11€ one, taking the risk that it won't work.

What is ths concept 2 logcard, in essence? Are those cards compliant to a standardized spec?
This König reader has some standards like ISO 7816 and PC/SC 1.0 in the spec, but I'm clueless as to what the C2 logcard complies with.

It looks like this ergkeeper.com site reads directly from the cardreader and uploads to runkeeper.com...
So the Concept 2 Utility software does not play any role in this.

This is the data that my OmniKey drivers display with my C2 LogCard inserted.

Thx. I guess I will give the König thingy a try, I found it even chaper in another online store.
For €7,50 I 'll take the risk. I'll update here how it works out!

There are MANY readers on the market, however only a limited number of them support the "I2C Memory Only" type cards; which technically is NOT a smartcard. Technically, it's a "Memory only card in a ISO7916 card format".

Even if the reader does support the I2C memory only card type, the Concept2 Utility would not use the reader as the app looks specifically for the Athena; Omnikey; or Concept2 PM3/PM4 as a reader. If the reader is a 'wholehearted knockoff' including identifying itself to the computer as an Athena or Omnikey reader then it's not going to work.

23€ for the Omnikey? That's cheaper than in the US: just get it if it is compatible with your computer (Please see our web site for compatibiltiy notes). Occasionally when new operating systems comes out, Omnikey seems to lag behind in support but they usually catch up; Concept2 USA currently stocks the Athena due to more consistent compatbility and support.

Abstract

ISO/IEC 7816-15:2004 specifies a card application. This application contains information on cryptographic functionality. Further, ISO/IEC 7816-15:2004 defines a common syntax (in ASN.1) and format for the cryptographic information and mechanisms to share this information whenever appropriate.

ISO/IEC 7816-15:2004 supports the following capabilities:

• storage of multiple instances of cryptographic information in a card;
  use of the cryptographic information;
  retrieval of the cryptographic information;
  cross-referencing of the cryptographic information with DOs defined in ISO/IEC 7816 when appropriate;
  different authentication mechanisms; and
  multiple cryptographic algorithms.
