Automatically updating online logbook
Automatically updating online logbook
Does anyone know if there is a way to automatically update the online logbook?
I use rowpro if that helps, or is there a separate tool or utility that would sync up my rows with the logbook after each row or perhaps once per day?

Re: Automatically updating online logbook
Very good question.
It is very manual in RowPro but not really a problem if you do it after every row. The problem occurs when I had to upload 3 months worth before 1st May as I was only uploading them for the challanges and didn't realise you get lifetime meters etc. Got quite tedious so just been doing 10-15 results a day till I caught up.
If anyone has a good answer can they post it please.

I am missing something? Yes it's not automatic but you got to the Rowing Log select those results that don't say C2 in the column (forget the name), right click and export to C2.Carl Watts wrote:Very good question.

You can sort the C2 column so you group all results you have not uploaded.

You may be able to automate that GUI stuff with http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/index.shtmljliddil wrote:I am missing something? Re: Automatically updating online logbook
Thanks for the suggestions. So there is no way to automatically update the online logbook, it would be a great feature to have and I will suggest this as a feature request in the Digital Rowing feedback forum shortly.
The suggestions to use a scripting or macro tool, while it may reduce the number of mouse clicks, still does not automate the process of updating the logbook. What I'm thinking of is having the software update the logbook in the background if you have chosen to save your rows - you don't have to remember or think about it, it will just get done.
In the meantime I'll continue to update the logbook manually.

Re: Automatically updating online logbook
It's nothing to do with RowPro but, if you use a machine with a PM3 or PM4 and a LogCard, you can use a LogCard reader and the free Concept2 Utility to upload a load of rows at once to the Logbook.

Keep in mind that any automated method means you need to store and pass your username and password via the computer. So some folks may not be comfortable storing a password permanently. Never really looked to see if Rowpro stores the password encrypted or not.selco wrote:Thanks for the suggestions. Re: Automatically updating online logbook
Don't worry - when it hits the wire it's going in the clear if you use http://www.concept2.com/sranking03/log.asp or if RowPro accesses that website behind the scenes.jliddil wrote:Keep in mind that any automated method means you need to store and pass your username and password via the computer. The C2 logbook web page sends everything as a HTTP form
Code: Select all
<form method="post" action="log_in.asp?p=" name="login">
Code: Select all
rn_user=c2useid&rn_pword=password&look=LOGIN
The C2 Utility uses an encrypted token and a two way exchange to do the authentication - looks a bit like OAuth done in XML (in a Wireshark trace). It's better but, with my security specialist hat on, 100% pointless since the logbook home page lacks any security.
I like OAuth, I think it's a simple enough, secure enough scheme for everyday use but doesn't require heavy lifting to create the HMAC-SHA-1 encrypted digests.
