Re: Do not Update the PM5 to V22 firmware for RowPro

I have a PM5 and upgraded to V22 firmware when it first came out and have been unable to row online since. I usually watch videos while rowing so was not too bothered and was waiting for a fix.
However, I updated the C2 Utility and sent feedback to C2, as a result of subsequent emails, Scott sent me the V20 firmware.
I downgraded my PM5 to V20 quickly and easily and then successfully completed a row using RowPro 5 (pc)

I have a Win 10 laptop connected via cable to the PM5 and used the C2 Utility V6.97. I opened the utility and dragged the V20 firmware zip file onto the utility. I then followed the on-screen instructions. There is no need to unzip the file. This is the file name and I assume that it is not unique to me: pm5_eurochinesebin_secure_R020B000
The file is too big to attach, so have included a Dropbox link should anyone else wish to try downgrading their PM5 to V20. Do so at own risk etc ....

Yesterday I downgraded my PM5 firmware to V20 and successfully used RowPro 5.0.5 (pc) to row with Carl Watts this morning. While I was checking that my results had uploaded ok, I noticed that RowPro had released V 5.0.6, with a PM5 V22 fix. I installed RowPro V5.0.6 and updated the PM5 to V22 and successfully rowed a 500m test row.

RowPro 4 is still at 4.300, so I don't know if that has been fixed for V22 or not.

I did make a post here yesterday with a link to the V20 firmware, but that may or may not make it past the mods.

General observation, RowPro seems to record session times from the start of the session and the PM5 from the end of the session, so if I mix and match upload methods I get the same workout duplicated with different times - madness! Still I guess it can crank my annual meters up quicker...

This morning I rowed with Carl and one other rower, I used the new RowProw V5.0.6 with the V22 fix and my PM5 with V22 firmware. I had successfully completed a 500m test row.

At the start my boat was frozen and there were no other boats or upper screen data. My countdown worked and my data was displayed on PM5 and RowPro lower screen. When the 30min row ended, the results page appeared as normal. Carl was unaware there was an issue as my boat and data displayed correctly to him.

I have sent RowPro my log files.

I was thinking about this step but was waiting for the official release...might have to give it a go

Its okay to have a few issues if you row now and again but if your rowing online 6 days a week and you want no problems I suggest RP V4.3, Win 10 and a PM3 or PM4. If you have a PM5 then you want to keep it on the older version of firmware for now although I don't know if the lateest version of Firmware and V4.3 is giving the same issues. Nothing more frustrating than seeing all your hard work freeze up, drop out or not show in the results.

Still waiting for the official full release of V5 and as much as I like some of the new features in the preview its likely I will hold back until any problems have been sorted.

Please keep posting and keep everyone updated if you decide to keep using V5 and let me know how its performing. V4.3 is as stable as a rock as long as you have a good internet connection and half way decent PC hardware.

I used RowPro V5.0.6 and V20 firmware in my PM5 for my row today with Carl. It worked much as expected, I could see Carl's data on screen, though only saw his boat at the start, not the usual panning around and focus on individual boats which I saw using V5.0.5.

Anyone else have any feedback or observations?

I updated my PM5 to v22 and ended up with a 'beta' message on my PM5 screen and my heartrate monitor was no longer recognised.
Pretty feeble effort Concept2 - what a waste of time!!
Thanks to Mark (Euroman) - I used Marks downgrade to v20 and easily easily fixed the problem.

"You install beta software at your own risk. Make sure the Concept2 Utility is set to "I am not interested in test firmware. Only download fully testet production firmware."

I've checked the settings on my Concept2 utility (6.992) and the "I am not interested in test firmware..." box is already selected.

I am now about to install the latest version of the utility.

I'll keep an eye on this topic and wait until it is definitely, positively without a doubt resolved before I get a newer PM or C2 machine. The PM3 still works great, rowing online with RowPro and if I couldn't row online with other people, I'd lose a huge amount of motivation to keep rowing.

No updates on the Digital Rowing Facebook page since the first post alerting to the problem on May 29th if you scroll down to find it.
