Any idea if/when RowIt will support the PM4?

Post by joelj » September 24th, 2006, 3:10 am

Hi,

My rower was just delivered a few days ago. I immediately downloaded the RowPro trial, but quickly became frustrated with all the bugs. I'd like to try RowIt, but it doesn't seem to support the PM4 yet. Does anyone know when or if it will?

Thanks in advance,
Joel Johnstone

Yes, the PM4 will just work with RowPro 2.003 the current version and later.

Earlier versions of RowPro will not work with the PM4.

what is RowIt
It's a simple program that monitors your workout and automatically updates your online C2 workout log. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to support the PM4 yet.

what bugs did you have using rowpro? I am not aware of any real bugs or problems using rowpro offline. The only bugs with rowpro relate to online racing, and those we are told are a result of using the old erow protocol. But even with those bugs, online rowing with rowpro has worked pretty solidly for over a year and a half or so.

Rowpro does seem to have this strange quirk that sometimes people have trouble getting it set up and running at first. But once RP is installed and running correctly the first time, most problems, or all problems for offline use, should taken care of.

Rowit looks cool. Does it show any more than this?

RowIt

RowIt does not show anything else. However, you can read the log files (csv) in excel and calculate any ratio or unit you like.

Consequently you can show your calculations in a graph...

Thanks.

What kinds of units and ratios can it show?

Hi John,

I am not sure what you are asking here. Do you mean RowIt, or Excel?

The screenshot in jour previous message shows pretty much all that RowIt can show.

The logfiles produced by RowIt show the following:
Cumulative Time (in seconds)
Distance (in meters)
Pace (in seconds per meter)
Power (in Watts)
Cals
Strokes per Minute
HeartRate (Beats per Minute)

The logfiles are found in the Program Files\RowIt\data directory on your computer.

If you import the logfile comma separated in Excel (the microsoft Spreadsheet Program), you can analyze your performance on a per stroke basis by calculating units that are more user friendly. For example Pace would become sec/500m if you multiply the values for pace by 500.

By comparing similar trainingsessions and assuming your shape improves, you should see that with a constant pace, your average heartrate will decrease and viceversa.

Hopefully this is of any help...

Wouter

Can you use RowIt and RowPro together? How does one get RowIt and how much? Is it complicated? Sounds interesting. Thanks.

And the price is just right.

It doesn't have support for PM4.

Why would you want to?

RowPro has a lot more to offer than RowIt (which is just a basic rowing software). As aspected one must pay for the joy of using the more advanced stuff, such as RowPro, but it's well worth it.
PBs: 2K 6:13.4, 5K 16:32, 6K 19:55, 10K 33:49, 30min 8849m, 60min 17,309m
Caution: Static C2 ergs can ruin your technique and timing for rowing in a boat.
The best thing I ever did to improve my rowing was to sell my C2 and get a Rowperfect.
