Zoom RowPro 10k Tuesday 13:00 GMT

Post by gvcormac » May 8th, 2022, 1:31 pm

I've set up a RowPro (oarbits) 10k called Zoom_Row_10k for Tuesday May 10 at 12:00 GMT (09:00 EDT).

The idea is that we can all row in the same Zoom gallery. RowPro is optional -- I'll show a RowPro screen that you can pin if you like.

I'll post a zoom invite here shortly before the event. I'll also try to do so in the RowPro chat, but I i'm inexpert in how to do that.

This is the first time I've done something like this, so any hints on logistics would be welcome. (I've had a look at zoomergos.com.)

All welcome.

I'll look for you here and on RowPro.

Tuesday May 10 at 12:00 GMT (09:00 EDT).
There's something wrong there.
It's either
13:00GMT/14:00BST (09:00EDT)
or
12:00GMT/13:00BST (08:00EDT)

(Or half way 12:30GMT/13:30BST (08:30EDT))

Thank you! The row is 13:00 GMT (09:00 EDT), not 12:00 GMT. I don't see how to edit OP. Is that possible?

Probably going to struggle to get rowers as it is using RowPro let alone via zoom.

Time is always more popular than distance you probably better with a 30min or 45min. Its psycological people like to start and finish at the same time and not be still rowing when others have finished.

Still if you run it every week, sooner or later people will join. Thats the second problem, people want to join but not setup a row.

GMT is pretty horrible to work with, never got used to it even after 10 years still you have to use something to reference everything to.

13:00GMT no good for us down here, thats like 1AM in the morning local time but good luck.

Carl: Thanks for your comments. You make a good point about time vs. distance.

Also, this is a poor time (and season) for Europe and North America.

I'll treat this as a dress rehearsal. Perhaps I'll try weekly starting September.

RowPro is not required. I'll share screen to show the RowPro progress. So you can compare your times but won't show on the "water."

Zoom is free. I think most everybody in NA has been exposed to it through COVID 19.

My idea is that I'd sooner have a community of rowers than an "instructor" barking at me. In RowPro all you see is the avatar, and chat is useless during the event.

It is too bad that RowPro has jacked up their prices. It does a decent job for what it is, but monthly subscription is a reach. $99 purchase is steep, too, and binds you to one PM and one Windows or MacOS machine.

One other person showed up on RowPro (thanks Harry Hamster); none on Zoom.

Here's a highlight reel. Interesting how well the noise canceling works on the fan noise and regular breathing. Chain and throat clearing, not so much.

I'll try this again in the fall. Perhaps a 30min.

RowPro is actually very cheap, You cannot complain at USD$99 for a lifetime licence or most of the time its on special at USD$75.

I still row with people using V4.3 so they have had like 10 years useage out of it, its as cheap as chips.

If I wanted to use Zwift it would cost me over NZD$20 a MONTH so far RP has cost me USD$99 in 12 years.

You can easily move it from one PC to another, the activation, deactivation is done within RowPro in the Tools.

Just a note, there are some HUGE changes coming with the RowPro software, it has new owners and I have seen the proposed new graphics. They have taken on board probably 20 sugestions of mine but I suspect most of which were already implemented anyway. I'm pushing for the new version to be Online only, that way everything links to the phone App for the schedule and the results and this leads to other cool stuff that Concept 2 should have already done years ago.

Version 6.0 is going to be awesome and a total shakeup. Those using RowPro a lot have already been e-mailed some information.

I've not had an email and use it probably three times a week online.
