Can you connect a usb-c to the pm3?
I bought a cable on ebay with usb-a (printer cable) on one end and a usb-c on the other, the ones found on smartphones. Will with work or will it need to be a propretory cable? PM3 is updated if that makes a difference.
Thanks

You can't use USB-C.
You need a USB-A to USB-B printer cable with an OTG adapter for your phone.

Does it have to be a proprietary printer cable?Citroen wrote: ↑August 3rd, 2021, 4:28 amYou can't use USB-C.

Re: Can you connect a usb-c to the pm3?
All of the previous discussion is for ANDROID only. Those cables do not work with Apple. I didn't see what type of phone you are using, so heads up.
For Android:
A USB-C to Printer OTG cable might work. They are cheap. Unless Citroen has a reference of it failing then I'd just try it. Whichever cable you try MUST say OTG. There is an extra pin with OTG.
I use a "micro-USB-B to USB-A OTG printer cable" to connect an older Kindle to the PM5. Works great.
Please post whatever solution you end up using.

0SB-C is compatible with USB-B. Concept 2 even sells a passthrough adapter to let USB-C devices connect to a USB-B OTG printer cable so that Ergdata can run on phones with USB-C. https://shop.concept2.com/accessories/6 ... usb-c.html "USB B to USB C cable used to connect a PM3 or PM4 to an Android device with USB C for using software such as ErgData. 18 inches in length."
USB the protocol is very backward compliant. It's perfect electrically so it's always safe to just try. But it would be nice to have a confirmed success story.
re Apple and USB-C, Apple uses USB-C on iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPad Air. Not sure what else, you can find iphone chargers in usb-c if you google.

The correct printer cable is available from any Computer store for about $5.
The genuine Concept 2 one has a unique plastic "Wing" on it so it stops you trying to plug it into the monitor the wrong way around and smashing the socket off the board. This was a big problem with the PM3 and PM4 monitors, the sideways force on the surface mount USB socket rips it off the board.
The PM5 is now much less of a problem, the force try's to push the whole socket into the board.
