ERGdata app disconnects from PM5
ERGdata app disconnects from PM5
Hi,
New rower, loving the rower.
Less so the PM5 at the mo.
The Erg app keeps loosing connection with the PM5 which then becomes a somewhat of a extended kerfuffle of deleting the app restarting phone (usually multiple times) to get it to forget the session it was essentially frozen on and then restart a new session.
I've looked at the YouTube guides and I've only got it connecting from the app (and not through the phone, I've never connected it through the phone)
Also when it does lose connection the instructions that pop up on in the app don't correlate with the menu system in the PM5.
Would connecting with the USB cable forgo the Bluetooth connection issues?
Also the PM5 keeps dropping the connection to my H7 strap but my watch is fine. Is there a better strap to use?

Sorry I'm on a PM5v2 on Firmware V168 and no problems using Samsung A3(2017) or a Samsung S20FE 5G phone.
You probably have to be more specific on what phone your trying to use, its probably an iPhone or something weird.

Re: ERGdata app disconnects from PM5
Updating firmware might fix it, always worth a try.
Coincidentally, are there any other apps on your phone trying to use bluetooth? For me, Polar Flow and Polar Beat apps seemed to interfere with ErgData, leading to connection to ErgData dropping during a row.
H7 strap is great. But AFAIK it only supports one bluetooth connection at a time and doesn't have ANT+. So if you are trying to send HR data to both your phone and PM5, this might lead to some connection issues.
Third, make sure the H7 is connected to PM5 and not ErgData. PM5 will send HR data to ErgData, no need to pair it to your phone or have it remember the belt.

Hi, thank you for the replies,
The phones a OnePlus 3T - it a spare phone so I could try using my Poco X3 Pro if I don't get any joy
I've uninstalled Polar Flow just in case it was interfering in the background.
I'll do the firmware update this evening.
Didn't think about the H7 only being able to connect to one device as I had it connecting to my V800 ok as well for the first couple of sessions. I'll leave the watch off for this evening's session.
I only had the H7 connected to the PM5
Thank you for the help, I'll get back after tonight's session

Also play with where you put your phone.
I think the antenna on the PM5 is slightly directional. With best reception being towards the rower. If you phone is at right angles to or behind the pm5 maybe move it to be more in line.
Also some devices (e.g. invertor microwaves) can kill bluetooth while they are running.
You can also just skip bluetooth and use a cable from the phone to the PM5. The PM5 end looks like a printer, so get an OTG printer cable with the correct USB connection to plug into your phone. I use a micro USB to Printer cable from amazon, $6. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S6 ... UTF8&psc=1 (note this works becuase you have an android phone, apple users can't just order a cable.)

Re: ERGdata app disconnects from PM5
Hi,
I ended up doing a full reset on the phone, which has worked so far on last night's session.
I tried to update the firmware but it didn't seem to recognise the usb stick which was admittedly 32gb (the smallest I have atm) - I tried making a partion to trick it into thinking it was smaller than it is but no joy. The video guide says use as small usb memory size as possible - does anyone know the specific size it will take?
I have ordered a cable as well as I'm not a big fan of intermittent faffing.
It's a shame about the H7 (only having 1 reliable connection) - from reading around the Wahoo TickR seems like the best bet for multiple connections?
I'd really like to log the session on Polar watch or Flow/Beats as well.

Re: ERGdata app disconnects from PM5
Polar H10 has two connections and memory. For erging I use 1 connection for the PM5 so i can see display and the 2nd connection for polar beat. The PM5 talks to ergdata. Ergdata syncs to the C2 log. Polar beat syncs to polar flow. Both covering the same workout. Seems to work nicely. I can watch the polar beat HR graph and the ergdata data panels while I row. Helps keep me SLOW enough during long slow training.
I've also started using the H10 for OTW workouts. Leave the phone in a locker, the H10 captures the workout internally. Later you pull the data into Polar beat. Only problem is the workout starts when I leave the locker room, but the actual OTW starts 30 mins later when we sort out who is in which boat and get things launched.
H10 is also considered state of the art for Heart Rate Variability measurements if you want to play with those. See EliteHRV or similar app.

Re: ERGdata app disconnects from PM5
I just retired my old Samsung phone by taking the SIM out of it and now it lives on the Erg as a "mini tablet" in the PM5 phone holder.
Just leave it turned off until you row and turn it off again after. Saves you getting you nice new expensive phone covered in sweat.
The market for phones over here is pretty much Samsung or an iPhone, the rest of the market is probably worth 10%.

Re: ERGdata app disconnects from PM5
The PM5 - Erg connections seems stable now
I have tried the cable I got last night but Erg was still prompting me for a Bluetooth connection.
I'll probably upgrade to the Polar H9 by next weekend

Re: ERGdata app disconnects from PM5
Thank you for you help.
I decided to go with the H10
The PM5 and Erg app are working ok and the H10 is recording through the PM5 (and subsequently the app) and the H10 uploads fine to Polar Beats
