PM5 connection issues
Hi
Lucky me got a new laptop for Christmas! Unfortunately, the new machine shows the PM5 as not connected in both RowPro and Concept 2 utility. The laptop makes the usual sound when the USB cable is attached and the HID-compliant vendor-defined device and USB input device lines show up in device manager then the PM5 is plugged in.
I've tried different ports, reset the PM5 and reinstalled the firmware, tried a different USB wire and even tried with a spare PM5 I have all to no effect. The PM5 still shows up on the old laptop when plugged in.
Concept 2 support are still scratching their heads on this one and digital rowing are now having a look. Does anyone on the forum have any ideas?
Thanks

Re: PM5 connection issues
If you go to system/device manager and select, view ‘hidden devices’, then right-click uninstall the suspect device(s) that are generating an error, and delete any like-kind devices (USB, HID) that we're previously hidden from the same view. Then reboot windows and your OS should reload the devices, using its default driver settings. For some devices, you may receive a prompt to keep the installed driver, or delete it. Recommend choosing the former (for the sake of this trial & error fix-it attempt).
Leave your USB cord connected on reboot, but pull the batteries on the first reconnect attempt. Hopefully that clears your ongoing issue. I performed the above steps after a ‘Win10 build’ update (ver. 20H2) refused to acknowledge my PM5 connection afterward on my Microsoft Surface Go laptop. Reinstalled the batteries afterward and my laptop + PM5 we're happily reunited.
Hopefully I read your issue correctly,
Thnx

Re: PM5 connection issues
Hi
There was only one hidden HID device which I uninstalled. Rebooted with batteries out, but still no luck with the PM5.
Currently shows in HID:
Asus Precision Touchpad
HID-compliant vendor defined device (this is the PM5)
HID-compliant wireless radio controls
12C HID Device (from searches on web this appears to control touchpads)
Microsoft Input Configuration Device
USB Input device (this is the PM5 again)
All these sound fairly essential, so I haven't tried uninstalling them. Am I looking in the wrong places, or have I missed something?
Thanks

Re: PM5 connection issues
In addition to uninstalling the USB device, have you tried uninstalling concept 2’s ergdata, clean any residual registry entries (using utilities such as Ccleaner), reboot, then reinstall ergdata, right-click an install as ‘administrator’, and see if the drivers correctly load?

Re: PM5 connection issues
I don't have erg data, but I can try reinstalling c2 utilities and Rowpro. There shouldn't be any data yet, as neither have been able to connect to the PM5.
Re: PM5 connection issues
Ignoring the PM5, do you have a set of USB devices you can test on the new laptop? Say external USB wireless, usb Bluetooth adapter, wireless keyboard/mouse, usb flash drives, etc.
Be nice to rule out a generic USB problem with the new machine.
