VR Rowing (but on TV only)

Post by JParz » April 20th, 2019, 4:38 pm

Looking for a VR rowing app, but I dont have a VR headset so essentially what they would see in the VR, but just on an app (which I can project to my TV). Pretty much would like a HOLOFIT type of app that just works as an App on the TV instead of full VR headset. Let me if anyone has any suggestions. KinoMap seemed like it was a possibility but thats just videos of other people recording their rowing.

Just get RowPro or use Zwift or something like that.

Currently there is nothing really sophisticated, the indoor rowing market is far too small and the number of users that want to get online is practically zero.

The best suggestion I have seen recently is making the "RowBike" option in Zwift a reality. The Cycling community is simply massive in comparison to the rowing community, its like 20 - 50 times bigger at least going by the numbers online with Zwift. A mate of mine said there was 1400 people online the other day.

Introducing a 4 wheel rowbike would be cool, you could simply join the thousands of cyclists.

Just seems like with Holofit the tech is already there. Just dumb it down a little and make in not VR, and an app, and charge us for it. I should email the Holofit people.

JParz, you seem to assume that the existing virtual rowing apps use a VR headset. They do not. They work on an ordinary phone or computer screen, and there is no tracking of head movement as there would be with a VR headset.

As far as I know, Zwift can run on an AppleTV 4K. I don't know if there is also a Zwift app for your TV, but this would probably be your best bet, since Zwift is much larger than both RowPro and LiveRowing.

They were at FIBO this year, and I tried their VR and have to say, it's amazing.

You should definitely try emailing them, they were pretty relaxed so they might be able to help you if you want 2D. I mean they already have the content! :D

They also demoed a new more affordable version of HOLOFIT on a wireless headset and I preordered it, will come back with impressions when it is released...

to those who tried VR - is sweat an issue? I could imagine it's pretty awful and bloody hot under the hood. I need to take it off every now and then even when gaming, can't imagine it being comfortable when on the rowing machine.
