Online Rowing?

I recently bought a new C2 and am interested in online rowing. It'd be nice to do (friendly) competitions and have my rowing sessions automatically logged. I read through the RowPro site and it looks like it's a 1-time $99 fee. Is that correct?

I also noticed the message boards contain a lot of stuff regarding technical issues, etc. Is it worth purchasing? Are there other choices besides RowPro?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I've used RowPro since 2004, and generally have had a good experience. After upgrading to a PM5 earlier this year and needing to move from RowPro 4 to 5 I had some initial teething problems in getting set up, but eventually managed to sort it out (was using the wrong e-mail address when I set up the upgraded version). If you do run into snags you should be able to find someone who can help on this forum, or send an e-mail to the RowPro support address (not always a quick turnaround, but they'll get to you eventually).

So for me, it has definitely been worth the original purchase price, plus all the upgrades I've paid for over the years. I don't use the Online feature that often, but when I joined some of the regular scheduled evening sessions some time back, it was a lot of fun. The biggest value for me has been the ability to race against my past RowPro rows, which can be useful when trying to break a season / personal best (because it replicates the exact paces of the old row, including late sprints, etc.).

I've heard of some alternatives for online rowing, but can't remember the names offhand. Hopefully others will contribute if they think the options are worthwhile.

At least give the free trial period a go to see if it works for you.

theres usually a 25% offer that is running every now and again.

its a small company, so the support is not exactly microsoft.
there are some bugs, but it generally works.
It covers most features you need.

i'm not sure about alternatives, there are some enthusiasts with various projects -

Thanks to both of you. Sounds like this will be nice to have. I like the idea of having a pace boat at my exact last pace.

I use rowpro with a PM3. I've got an older version of the software that I purchased a few years ago and have not upgraded. Now that I've started rowing regularly, I like using rowpro for my Pete Plan training sessions. I will often row against one of my previous rows as a challenge to beat my prior times. I've also just completed my first online row. It was fun doing the 10k piece with another live person out there.

Only you can decide if all this is worth the $99. Perhaps give it a trial run.
