"RowPro has detected a problem" 4.2 in Parallels

Post by neacail » February 10th, 2015, 10:06 am

Hello, everyone.

I read through some threads, but I couldn't find this exact same problem.

I'm attempting to run RowPro on the latest Retina MacBook Pro 13" (http://www.apple.com/ca/macbook-pro/specs-retina/ . . . the 2.8 ghz $1899 one on that page), in a Windows 8.1 Parallels virtual machine. I've attached a screenshot of the error I'm getting to this message.

The kicker is that RowPro works on my Windows 7 Parallels Virtual Machine just fine. The problem with that VM is that it is an OEM version (licensed to a specific motherboard) of Windows from the Dell Notebook that I migrated from. I copied the entire Dell system using Parallels and then cracked that OS so I could run it on the MacBook for testing purposes while I migrated all of my Windows software to the version of Windows 8.1 that I purchased specifically to run in Parallels on this machine.

RowPro is the last holdout in this process. While it is the Microsoft JET Database Engine that appears to be the source of the problem (based on the error RowPro returned), I'm hoping someone has some suggestions for me as to how I could fix that. I don't want to use the VM with the cracked OS on it. It is the regular Windows 8.1: not the "Pro."

I really don't want to move to Bootcamp for this, as I absolutely do not want a dual boot machine.

Should have bought a old Dual core PC to run it on for $60, got a decent video card and as your into cracked OS put a cracked version of 8.1 on it for free and your away.

The whole set-up on mine is worth less than $200 and its faultless. An old Pentium 4 at 3.2GHz with 2Gb of ram out of a rubbish bin ($0) with the addition of a decent mid to high end graphics card and your away.

Can you not run dual boot native Windows 8.1 on the latest Macbooks anyway ? I thought I read somewhere they are Intel.

I'm not into cracked OS at all. I'm opposed to it. I only ran the cracked OS while I was testing and migrating software to the new OS. As soon as I had everything but RowPro working I deleted the virtual machine with the cracked OS on it.

We have several notebooks in the house. I replaced my quad core i7, with 16gb ram, and an MD Radeon R9 M295X video card with the MacBook.

I can run a dual boot system on the Mac with Bootcamp, but as I specified in my first post on this subject, I don't want a dual boot system. I'm moving as far away from Windows as possible, and I only want to dip into it if I absolutely have to.

Why did you not use this as the "RowPro server" ? I have a dedicated PC to only run RowPro so it boots Windows 8.1 very fast with a SSD, like 15 seconds. All I have on it is the OS and RowPro. That PC of yours is total overkill for RP and is faster than anything in my house, even in the office I only use a dual boot Windows XP/Windows 8.1 (dual SSD) with a 2.5GHz Quad core AMD and 4Gb of Ram .

Don't understand why you would want to move away from Windows when you need it if you don't want any problems running RowPro. A native Mac version of RP is still coming, it has been now for a very very long time (no doubt the release of the PM5 has set it back even further as its more important to get this going on a PC than it is to get the Mac version going) but seriously its easier for a computer savy person to just go and sort a cheap PC for it. Even if you don't know the first thing about Windows you could install RP on it and just click the Icon to run it.

If RP only ran on a Mac I would have gone out years ago and bought one.
