RowPro and Marathon

Post by Wood_Duck » March 27th, 2006, 4:00 pm

A bunch of us hope to do a marathon together on-line with RowPro. Anyone have any experience with this?

I have noticed that if two or three of us are rowing we have no trouble. If we have five or more, we typically have to do a QR or two before everyone will be able to join the race. The problem has been greyed out buttons that have never become active.

I wonder what will happen as we each take breaks during the marathon of different times.

If you have rowed a group marathon, how many were on-line?

Thanks.
Susan

I've never actually rowed a full marathon online with RowPro, only a half marathon (or less). I doubt it will be any different, other than taking about twice as long :)

I haven't seen as much of the start problems you mention lately, so long as everyone signs in before the appointed time arrives. At worst, you'll do a QR for a marathon.

As for the breaks, RowPro should keep your PM2+ or PM3 active, so you don't have to worry about it losing track of your progress as you might with a long break doing a solo row. To the others, it will appear as though you've stopped rowing - and when you finish your drink stop or whatever and resume rowing, the pace indicator for your lane will show you in motion again. I think you want to make sure everyone agrees not to push the "stop row" button until everyone else has finished.

When is the big event?

I ran an evaluation copy of RowPro (offline) on my brand new Dell Laptop for the MAD 4-man marathon relay. (This was rowed by three members of the MAD team - they still set a British record.)

It was OK until the end when Windows crashed and the PM3 got an error code.

They rowed for 2hrs 15mins.

I didn't bother looking at why it crashed. Thankfully, the splits were safely recorded on my logcard.

YMMV.

I would recommend upgrading the firmware in your PM3 to the very latest V94 Beta Build 3 level. http://www.concept2.com/05/rower/servic ... wnload.asp

I have successfully rowed a couple of marathons online with RowPro. It really depends on the participants as it seems some people have more problems than others. You do want to make sure that you have a current release of firmware if you are using PM3s as there were problems with some of the earlier versions. Also make sure you have disabled screen savers and any other automatic processes on your PC that could cause you problems.

I just updated the PM3. Build 10 was released on 3/23.
THANKS!

We are going to do the marathon on either Wed. April 19 or Sat. April 22. There are 5 of us. We may have to split into two groups because some can get vacation and others can't. Although there is still lots of time for plans to change.

Thanks - I hadn't spotted that.

Do it on April 22nd. That's London Marathon Day.
I'm doing an offline marathon on that day.

Susan, I am going to try and join you gals for that marathon too, but don't plan around me at all. I have no preference, whichever of the two days you go with. I am hoping my husband will be home, since winter work has tapered off. Maybe he and our 13 m/o can have 3 hours of bonding time while I slog through that marathon?

Krysta,

Try to join me on Wednesday the 19th, it would be a bonding experience for two sisters to be in agony together!!!

Hey, I notice that your sig says you weigh 135! How many HOURS did you actually keep your weight at 135?

Haha, true enough. :P I had to dehydrate badly to make the scale read under 135 and I am more than that now, after my holidays. But I am working towards being a year-round lightweight. If we're going to subject ourselves to the pain of a marathon, I should really aim to be lightweight again for that, at least.
