Rowpro for Mac

Is there any software out there for macs that allows for virtual rows on lakes and rivers? I am not interested in online racing, but would really enjoy virtual rowing of this nature. Years ago I did a virtual row around Lake Champlain, using a book and map designed for that purpose. All the software I've managed to locate uses a PC. I have an iTouch and a macbook air.

Turn your overpriced Apple hardware into a braindead zombie with Parallels or Bootcamp and you can install MS Windows on it. Once you have Windows you can run RowPro (which still doesn't have a native Apple or Linux version).

The new version of RowPro is out there now for testing with a few individuals.

It will not be that far away from release to run on a Mac.

It has been at that state for many, many years now. I gave up on it about 4 years ago, when BootCamp and (later) Parallels came along. I now use RowPro with Parallels and WindowsXP on an old MacBook. Not great, but it works most of the time, and I have enjoyed using it, even though it is time consuming, what with often having to back up and reset, and it is a bear to try to get the HR readings included.

It may be too late for it now. Computers are on the way out, but writing a RowPro app for Android and/or IOS devices would mean starting from scratch.

Yes I'm part of the test group for V3.3 running on the PC now.

I can only presume the final release will be V4.0.

If it only ran on a Mac then I would have bought one to run it on years ago, not really a reason not to run it. Had to upgrade to Windows 8 as well and probably about time, Windows XP is getting pretty old. The great thing about a PC is you still only need a Pentium 4 to run it so a 2004-2006 PC with a decent PCI-E graphics card eats it. Basically people over here are throwing PC's like this in the bin so a rebuild and a $149 graphics card and your away at 75Hz (75fps) frame rates in the highest quality.

Had a call a few months ago for the new trial. Apparently it was a false start last year.

Not sure why this is even important, the last new Macbook air I think it was I saw had dual boot and had Windows 8.1 running on it. These have intel processors in now.

I also setup my office PC with a second harddrive and have dual boot Windows XP and Window 8.1.

Personally I wish that so much time was not being devoted to a Mac version, its a bit of a dead duck. An Android version is probably more important or a RowPro lite version as an App on your Smartphone for when the new Concept 2 monitor has Bluetooth. There are a few suggested improvements to RowPro I have made like 3 years ago that have not happened, no doubt due to the resources being poured into the Mac version.

Bought a backup PC to Run RowPro a couple of weeks ago, it cost me $22. Also rebuilt a dual core PC with new Intel Mobo for $46 and added 4 Gb of DDR3 RAM for $30, total overkill for Rowpro. PC's you need to run this are so cheap and companies are just throwing them in the bin, just buy a PC and run Windows 8.1 on it.

I said about a year ago it was not far away, I guess I was wrong, sorry about that but generally if your invited to a test group then the assumption is that its not far away. The proliferation of new hardware/OS platforms has really proven to be a bit of a nightmare for a small software developers like Digital Rowing, I really feel for them in trying to guess which way the bigger companies that are able to rapidly change direction are heading next.

I've been holding on on upgrading to RowPro4 since I'd have to buy the 40$ upgrade plus 100+ for Windows 8. I have XP on my parallels. So that's the main reason. I'm not in any rush to upgrade since RP3 doesn't run too badly for me and it'd be nice to save on buying windows again.

I was also using Parallels/Windows XP on my MacBook with 19" ViewSonic screen so that I could see it from the erg. When I heard that XP support was coming to an end, I said goodbye to RowPro. Now the 19" screen is in use with my Mac mini (an upgrade from my 6 year old 24" iMac) and the (even older) MacBook with Snow Leopard is used for certain applications that are not supported by Mavericks. RowPro is done gone - I don't miss it.

True, but if they are in the testing phase then it exists.

Problem is the development cycle is way to long and anyone that really wants to use it has already bought a PC, I mean who would seriously wait over 5 years to start using it.

If it only ran on a Mac, then I would have bought a Mac to run it. No big deal I bought a dedicated PC to run it so whats the difference ? I just laugh at people who keep on about the Mac version. I wouldn't even have to learn the new OS, you just turn on the computer and run a single application.

By the time this finally hits the market you will have a dual boot machine anyway.
