false start...

Post by mattmor » January 23rd, 2011, 3:16 pm

Hi,

I'm obviously new here, today I attempted my first online row. I accidentally false started, so I'm guessing that I can't restart back in that session?

It was a 30min session, so once I couldn't get back in I just did my own 30min piece.

Could someone please explain the procedures for an online row, and also I've seen interval sessions listed. How does that work? For example a 2 x 2k session - as some people are faster what happens with that? Sorry for the slew of questions.

Thanks!

Hi Matt,
Sorry it took so long to notice this post!

- false start: you are supposed to be able to stop rowing, and when the fly wheel stops, it will get you back to the start. HOWEVER, this feature is extremely buggy.. I've rarely seen it work as it is supposed to, so
a) dont false start, but if you do
b) create a new quick race (or ask race organizer to do same) :D

- Intervals: Can be set up as quick races, or as scheduled races. It all depends on the race organizer on how much rest between intervals, when I am the race organizer, I typically start the clock when the first person finishes, which means the slower people like myself get less rest, which is unfortunate, but that's the way it is :D

The way to get around this, is to scheduled intervals by time, instead of 2x2k, do a 2x8min. But, no one likes to do time based intervals, so I tend to just live with the shorter rest period.

I've only been involved in one RowPro row where somebody (not me!) false-started. We all stopped rowing and the starter (I think it was Jim Cushwa at his regular 10:00 GMT gig) smoothly re-started us and the row went uneventfully.

Maybe the missing ingredient was stopping?

Recommend you just try a 2 x 2K and see how it goes. The individual pieces are generally sufficiently well separated. If not, the second leg can just be started late.
