The 2009/2010 Winter Handicapped Racing Series will start this week. All are welcome to join in. The more the merrier.
2 races are currently scheduled:
Wed 00:30 GMT - Chad will Administer
Sun 19:30 GMT - Ernie will Administer
Feel free to post another race if these don't work for you and you are willing to administer.
Tentative Rules:
1. All races 6k
2. Weekly Participation points - All participants earn one point for racing. One point per week maximum.
3. Weekly Performance points - Top 5 finishers will earn participation points (5 for first, 4 for second, 3 for third, etc.), assuming they are eligible (more below).
4. Sandbag penalty - In order to make sure that all participants submit challenging "predicted times" there will be a Sandbag Penalty for racers who beat their predicted times by too much. The actual threshold will be kept secret until after the racing, and will be a number between 0 and 30 seconds. So for example if Ernie predicts a time of 20:00 minutes, actually rows a 19:44 (beats his "predicted time" by 16 seconds) , and the Sandbag Penalty threshold turns out to be 15 seconds, then he would not be eligible for Performance Points because his Predicted Time was not challenging enough.
5. Series will be for 10 weeks. Only top 6 weeks count. This will allow for travel, injuries, vacations, etc.
I think these rules make sense, but am open to suggestions prior to our first race on Wed. Let me know if you can think of improvements.
