noisy model C

Post by furious p » November 18th, 2008, 3:16 am

I just picked up a model C for $300 CDN. Besides needing a new shock cord, it's quite a bit louder than other C's I've used. It sounds like the excess noise is coming from the sprocket, but I can find anything wrong with the chain or any unusual wear on the sprocket.

It's worth noting that the machine feels fine, and runs like the C's I usually use at the gym. Anyone have any suggestions?

Furious P,

Give the chain a good cleaning with the C2 oil or mineral oil, and clean the cage and fan if dirty. If you replace the shock cord, make sure you've aligned it properly. Still noisey? Wear earbuds and listen to the Pogues! :)

If there's a wall in front of or either side of the erg, that would amplify the noise quite a bit.

The ergs in the gym are probably out in the open.
