technique at the catch...the back

It seems to me that right after the catch my back "opens" a little no matter what. It opens to a point, then freezes until it opens the rest of the way later in the drive when it is supposed to.

Is this a major flaw? If so, what can I do to correct it?

No. (As long as it's just a little) :wink:

If you have access to slides or a boat and see that it goes away in those situations, you are fine. It's a side effect of being on the grounded erg where you must accelerate your body up to speed simply to catch the flywheel, and as the core firms up to support the load the torso moves a bit until resistance is found.
