1st million

Well, I finished off my first million this evening. I started 10/27/07 and had hoped to finish before the end of February, but circumstances intervened.
The next million will take longer. Spring is coming quickly to South Carolina. I'll be running more, flying more, and just generally being outside.
I plan to incorporate a rowing warm up and warm down into my running routine. And of course, there are always the rainy days.

Why? I have piled up about 6 1/2 million in the last 4-5 years, as well as completed 3 marathons, but I can't see any point to this t-shirt and mug business. Especially the mugs. I can well imagine the the gripes I would hear if there were 3 mugs sitting around needing regular dusting. Am I missing something? T-Shirts? We are not designed to be walking billboards fer krissake.

I definitely want the T shirt. I hope to have one of the marathon mugs some fine day as well.
When I have a few more millions of meters I may be less interested. For now, I'm looking forward to having the shirt and many more erg accomplishments.

Currently on 996406 metres - cross the line tomorrow. 11 months on the C2, but "forced" to take 2 months off for travels.
Where do I get my billboard from?!

You get a mug suitable for barley soda when you completed that one.
I knocked out mine today !

Marathon sounds like a plan - I'll pencil one in for mid-may I think.
Any guidance on training for it? I utilised the JFDI approach to the half-marathon, but I'm not sure if it's possible to cross that over to the full marathon with any real level of success. Recruiting some fellow ergers at work will probably make it all a bit more fun too!

I'm not much of one to give marathon training advice. I Just tried to row some longish sets, maybe 10k plus another 5-7 in warm up/warm down. I did that several times in trying to finish out the million. I probably had a few sets in the mid 20's as well. All interval sets with plenty of rest.
I did row one long interval session consisting of 1x10k, 4x5k, and other bits and pieces to total 35k. I rested 2-3 minutes between intervals.
On the appointed marathon day, I just started rowing... That's definitely not the best way to approach it. It's just that I had the time and opportunity. Finding that 3-4 hour period of time was a big part of the challenge.

Have plenty of water available and drink it. I went through 2 quarts water and 2 quarts PowerAde and could have used more

Well, just because you don't want free clothing and glassware doesn't mean others of us don't! I've met some interesting people because of my Concept2 Tee.

I have heard that the mugs are free, but it is my impression that you have to do the t-shirt yourself using a transfer that you can download for free from C2.
Incidentally, my message was not intended as a complaint. I was really just curious as to why people would want these things. Your message provides one answer at least, i.e. it can be a conversation piece.

The 1 million meter T-Shirt is free, I got mine just after Christmas
There are instructions on the website, it's all online if you have your metres uploaded to your logbook.

I was surprised how quick the T-shirt was to arrive.

My accomplishments are petty compared to people who really change the world. I my not have a Nobel Prize, but I have a Marathon Mug. I'm betting Al Gore can't say that.
I take whatever small acknowledgement of my completed goals that I can get.
