Is there a way to "pause" the time on a PM3 in the middle of a row, e.g. to take a quick bathroom break? If so, how?
I like keeping track on my times on single-distance rows, and don't like to artificially inflate the times if I have to make a quick pit stop. T
his will only get worse as I move into longer rows. (I currently do 7500-10,000m at a time, but want to start doing longer rows more regularly.)
Pausing a PM3?

Not possible.
If you row on JUST ROW it will stop 6 seconds after the last stroke, it will shut down after 4mins (2mins with V101 firmware) and restart into JUST ROW on the second stroke. Each session will be recorded on as a separate row (with 5:00 split times) in the PM3 memory or on your logcard.
Simply by not pressing any buttons you'll get close to what you want.
Although I can't see why anyone would need comfort breaks for any distance up to the full marathon. You'll be losing enough fluid as sweat that you'll not fill your bladder (assuming it is empty before you start).

If you start a timed distance row, the clock runs until you finish that distance or cancel the row. If you take a break for the rest room or a drink, etc. that time counts toward your total time just as it would in a real race of any kind.
If you look at the rules for completing a marathon, you will see that it tells you that all breaks count toward your total time.

it would totally deflate the meaning to so many of us if you could pause the PM for any reason what-so-ever. as far as the rankings go and your personal log - you could adjust you entry - but really, what would that serve? it would not. it would corrupt the rankings because if you put in your 45 minute 10k (but you really went to pee in the middle and it took you 4 minutes) the time would beat somebody that pulled the 10k without stopping to pee and got 46 minutes

I think s/he's talking about just row distances, not timed pieces.
Currently the just row feature pauses for 2 to 4 minutes anyway, so if someone were so inclined they could take a 2-4 minute break every few minutes and row whatever distance - but that is STILL not a ranking piece.
A pause feature on just row would be good, or else lengthen the automatic time out to at least 6 minutes or so.
When I'm out for long runs and have to take a "pause" in the bushes, that's no big deal. I just pause the watch, take a break, press the watch again and keep going.
That's another reason the pm2 was superior, as you could take a break in the middle of interval sessions if needed, for example during the active recovery intervals.
The pm3/4 doesn't have this capability. You have to reset the thing and start it all over again.
