Can anyone remember the old challenge of rowing down river?

Hi there,

Some years ago, around 2007, there was a challenge on the concept 2 website involving rowing 'virtually' along a specific river of series of rivers, I think in America. I remember there being various legs of the journey, and if you rowed them all you'd complete the challenge. There were also visuals, so you could imagine rowing down the actual water in question.

Can anyone remember this?

I'd love to know more.

I remember something like that back long before Concept2 UK and IndoorSportServices had their grand breakup.

http://indoorsportservices.co.uk/software/kinomap may be the results of what it became.

We have that with Delta Rower. It was actually easier to start with virtual rivers than racing with multiplayer, but we're close to finishing that now too. You can see video of it at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQBSy-hZpyU

If you have a particular river you're interested in, let us know and we'll get it in.

Yes, C2 had a "game", nothing to do with computer simulations. I can see it in my mind, but the specifics escape me right now. It was basically a map that you logged your progress on. If I think of the name, I'll post again. Maybe this will trigger someone else's memory for the name. I searched C2 but they evidently don't sell it any more.

I don't recall a river one off-hand, but there was one that sounds similar that was around Lake Champlain I believe.

Yes! it was called the Tour of Lake Champlain. Here is a link to an old thread from 2004: http://www.c2forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2346. Not much info, but proof that it did exist.

It would be cool if C2 brought it back, in the original form, or updated for the techie types. Anything to help with the motivation is welcome. C2jonW, are you there?

We are working on Delta Rower to get online racing done, and we're close...but we've been close for months now. After that, we have a commitment to help the sight impaired to get a piece of software developed for them. At that point, I could model a part of Lake Champlain, in the neighborhood of 6k meters worth of terrain. It's a big lake, is there a special area in or around it you would like to virtually row? The Winooski River looks pretty nice, or Keeler Bay.
