It wasn't pretty, but it's over!

I completed my first 1,000,000 metres by rowing my first marathon last night!

I can't say it was particularly enjoyable (the FM I mean)...and I can say that it wasn't very fast (3:08:10.4...fastest in Canada in my age group this year :D ...only one in Canada in my age group this year  ), but at least it's over.

Next time I do a marathon it will definintely be after a proper training regimen...and after bum augmentation surgery.

Certainly is a nice boost to my holiday challenge metres!

Thanks Rich,
Yes, I thought the FM to finish off the first million was a nice touch...however, it would have been a nicer touch if I had actually planned and prepared for the marathon. Instead, I rowed my normal 10ks and 60 minute rows right up to yesterday and then just sat down and hung on for 42km! (my last HM was Oct 2nd and I had never rowed anything longer until yesterday).
Still, it's done and it will probably start feeling good in a couple of days!! :(

Great job on the FM. I also did a FM to complete my first million. Most people don't even consider doing another one for months or even years after the first, so you must be just a little bit extra crazy.

Well done, Brent!
My first FM was about the worst experience I ever had on a rower (erg or boat).
Nevertheless, I did another one on the next year, and probably will do another one in april.

Not much special training, maybe a couple of HMs the months before.

Thanks!
It's only a viscious rumour that I'm thinking of another one!
It's just that when that day comes...it will be prepared for properly and I might then break 3 hours.

Thank you.
I think I'd do a couple of HMs and probably at least one 2 hour piece, just to get my backside tuned up!
Also, if I decide to do these things periodically, I think I'd rig up something to drink from while rowing. Stopping (twice) to gulp down 750 ml of Gatorade was not pleasant, nor was the effort required to start the fly-wheel again!

Thanks Tyn,
I now know how those guys on that ship of yours must have felt...at least they had somebody there to whip them!

Don't forget to log your FM online so that Concept2 will send a very nice Marathon Mug (doesn't come with gatorade).

Congratulations Brent! I have no intentions of ever doing a FM and have given my wife instructions to kill me if I ever consider doing one.

Congratulations,
At least you did it! I trained and planned and worked out the eating and drinking and never did it! (got caught up in the OTW racing season and never got back to it--this year I'll do one if I'm ready or not.)

Congratulations Brent!

When it came, I found that the Coveted Marathon Mug is actually much smaller, and not quite as shiny, as I imagined 35 km into the marathon! Just kidding...

Good job.
