Hello everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kevin. Today I received my first rowing machine, a Concept 2 model E. This spring and summer I got back int decent shape by running. It's been a little hard on my knees so I wanted something with a little lower impact that I could do through the winter to stay in shape.
I setup the rowing machine today in about 45 minutes and rowed on it for 5 minutes. Recording to the log card and posting to the online logbook was quite simple. Congratulations to Concept 2 for making this extremely simple, and user friendly.
I'm fairly competitive and will probably get involved in the challenges and such. Any suggestions on where to start?
Thanks,
Kevin

Welcome to the forum! You'll find a lot of helpful advice here, and considerable motivation and support for your goals. My one piece of advice is to focus on good technique before you get too competitive. It's terribly difficult to unlearn firmly entrenched bad technique.
Cheers!
Cheers!

Re: New Concept 2 Rower
I'd start by getting used to the exercise, keeping track of your meters, and entering your times in the rankings.kevin.tupper wrote:I'm fairly competitive and will probably get involved in the challenges and such. Any suggestions on where to start?
Then as you keep doing these things you will develop your personal program that works best for you.

Congratulations on a fantastic purchase.kevin.tupper wrote:I'm fairly competitive and will probably get involved in the challenges and such. Any suggestions on where to start?
Try the Cross Team Challenge. Sign up as an Independent and don't let any other clubs try to seduce you.

There are online challenges on the Concept2 US site. There is also a series of Concept 2 UK Monthly Challenges. If that's not enough, each online club has its own monthly challenge, which you can read about and do yourself even if you don't enter the details in each club's forum space.
And don't forget the real world competitions which are published on the Concept2 website.
There, you did say you were competitive! Enjoy the fun.
BTW what are your age, height and weight? It helps forum readers to judge your performances, and to offer appropriate advice (if you want it).
Cheers
Dave

If your kit came with Rowpro, get your PC next to your rower and get it installed. I have been using training plans created by the rowpro wizard, so if you don't have a plan, rowpro can help you get that sorted. The sessions the wizard schedules are more varied and interesting if you choose competition as your goal rather than fitness or weight reduction - rest assured you will lose weight and get fit on the competition plans.
